I don't kow if this is a common problem or not, but I have a 1986 944
NA, automatic trans. with a nasty low rpm vibration somewhere in the
drive train. It only manifests at startup when the motor is cold.
Adding a little throttle stops it immediately. A well known area
Porsche mechanic reported that he wasn't sure what is was. Anyone
familiar with this?

Vibration at idle speeds is usually a case of bad motor mounts in a 944.

I agree with Jack...bad motormounts will cause the engine to touch the frame
, which may fool you into thinking it is something else. Have the mounts
checked...it is a relatively inexpensive fix.

I too have a 86. What is your milege? and are the original mounts still on
the car. If you have any where near 80k or up, change the mounts. They
probably recommend changing them lower then that. I changed mine around
120k. I think they were the original mounts in the car. I could not believe
the difference in the car. It was like I put a different engine in the
thing.
