I have a problem with cold starting on my '86 951. When I first turn
the key, the engine barely turns as if the battery were almost dead.
If I turn the key a few more times the engine will turn over faster
each time and will eventually start. Once it's warmed up, there's no
problem. The battery is old, but it still holds a charge, usually
about 12.4 volts. Can anyone give me advice on this problem. Thanks in
advance.

high probablity that this is a battery problem, and high probability that it
will soon become a starter problem if you don't fix it. to confirm, connect
voltmeter and monitor battery voltage while cranking. If it drops below
about 10V, worry, if it drops below 8V the battery is dead
