I read a number of posts, plus Haynes and the service manual, on bleeding brakes and the clutch.

I do not understand if the car needs to be jacked up and level - if at all - or if one end must be raised at a time. e.g. Haynes' 9-15 step four says the rear bleed valve must be tilted to 11 o'clock (meaning to tilt the car I presume) to prevent air entering the system. so I don't understand what that means if all brakes are to be bled.

also was wondering why the clutch is particularly difficult to bleed, as was suggested on some old posts.

use a pressure bleeder, it's worth the $35. without it you will be
sorry. bleed every other year at least and your brakes/clutch cyl will
last almost forever. The clutch doesn't bleed very well because of the
type of master cylinder - trust me on this - just get or borrow a
pressure bleeder

what about the level of the car - will it be OK level? i.e. is Hayne's incorrect?

regarding bleeders : there's some interesting home-made bleeder how-tos out there like:

almost ALL the advice in Haynes regarding the 944 is either obvious,
useless, or wrong. You can get a PDF of the original manual, just
search the internet, and Porsche on their web site has a PDF of the
master parts list. If you use a pressure bleeder, leveling is unimportant.

I'm looking for a cheap (i.e. free) cap for the brake fluid reservoir so I can make a pressure bleeder. any ideas appreciated.

for the clutch cylinders, will pressure on top of the brake fluid reservoir do the same thing as pressing the clutch pedal?

also I read somewhere that pressing the pedals during bleeding can scrape junk out of the cylinders because they travel further than they do under normal operation - is this nonsense?

but related to that - is there an optimal position, or should one operate the pedals at some point while pressure bleeding to clear out the cylinders?

I don't press on the pedal while pressure bleeding because i'm under the
car opening the bleed fittings, don't worry about it, just get the junk
fluid out of there.
