My clock has stopped. Voltage/fuses look fine. I've been to Pelican parts on
the VDO Clock Repair using a 914 as an example. My 87 911 clock looks like
type 1, but has the screws holding it like the type II. Accordingly, even if
it is an inside fuse, I'd like to send it in for repair. I did a quick look,
and I'd rather not.

(This from a guy who rebuilt his electronic seat switches with those tiny
springs and ball-bearings. Twasn't for the faint of heart). But I'll pass on
the clock.

I did a search: excite, and only came up with the Pelican Parts article. Can
you point me to a VDO repair shop that will do the clock?

How about VDO?
Winchester, VA is the repair facility in NA.
www.vdo.com ought to get you there.

Try www.continentalimports.com in Gainesville, FL. I don't have any repair
experience with them but for a fee, they'll tell you if it's repairable and how
much.

Go to ebay and search on VDO or PORSCHE CLOCK. There are several there for
less than a repair bill. Check to see if compatible with your car. Also, I
got an SC tach. at Roundtop in Hershey Pennsylvania this year for 20 bucks.
Perfect condition. May not be practical for you but .....

Thank for your note, however, I went to VDO North America VDONA, and their web
site, under technical support/repair says "Please note VDO North America no
longer repairs products factory direct." Instead they reference you to
speedck, hollywood repair, etc.

Each of them said it would be the "SAME" to have it repaired, circa $100, vs
buying a new one for $130. So, do you think I'm getting some upselling? It is
just a quartz clock that has stopped.... you'd think that it would be $50 to
r/r.

I'm starting to get tired of people up-selling me, and ripping me off. I love
my car, but this is getting "thin".

VDO is not an option: They wrote in reply to my request for service:

Hello ,
this clock is build for Porsche by VDO in Germany .
You may go to the Dealer and check if they have a better deal ?
We here in the USA do not repair or sell these clocks .
