1997 Grand Prix Rear Speaker Removal

Can anyone explain to me step by step how to access the rear speakers
for replacement in a 1997 Pontiac Grand Prix?

Here's the procedure for a '98 Grand Prix. Don't know if it's similar to a
'97 or not.

Speaker Replacement - Rear
Removal Procedure
Remove the rear window trim panel. Refer to Trim Panel Replacement - Rear
Window Shelf in Interior Trim.

[NOTE: Trim panel removal procedure follows this procedure]

Remove the bolts/screws from the rear speaker base.
Lift up on the front of the rear speaker in order to release the rear
mounting tabs.
Disconnect the electrical connector from the rear speaker.
Remove the rear speaker from the rear shelf.

Installation Procedure

Install the rear speaker to the rear shelf.
Connect the electrical connector to the rear speaker.
Align the rear speaker mounting tabs into the slots.

Notice
Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must
be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or
sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints,
lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces
unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping
force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and
specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts
and systems.

Install the bolts/screws to the rear speaker base. Tighten
Tighten the rear speaker bolts/screws to 2 N搶 (18 lb in).
Install the rear window trim panel. Refer to Trim Panel Replacement - Rear
Window Shelf in Interior Trim.

Removal Procedure
Tools Required
J 38778 Door Trim Pad and Garnish Clip Remover

Remove the rear seat cushion. Refer to Seat Cushion Replacement - Rear in
Seats.
Remove the rear seat back. Refer to Seat Back Replacement - Rear in Seats.
Remove the quarter lower trim. Refer to Trim Panel Replacement - Rear
Quarter Lower .
Remove the quarter upper trim. Refer to Trim Panel Replacement - Rear
Quarter Lower .
Remove the rear seat belts from the T slots in the rear window trim panel.
Remove the push-in retainers from the rear window trim panel using J 38778
Door Trim Pad and Garnish Clip Remover.
Remove the rear window trim panel by sliding the panel out.

Installation Procedure

Slide in the rear window trim panel in order to install.
Install the rear window trim panel by installing the safety belts into the T
slots in the rear window trim panel.
Install the push-in retainers to the rear window trim panel.
Install the quarter upper trim. Refer to Trim Panel Replacement - Rear
Quarter Upper .
Install the quarter lower trim. Refer to Trim Panel Replacement - Rear
Quarter Lower .
Install the rear seat back. Refer to Seat Back Replacement - Rear in Seats.
Install the rear seat cushion. Refer to Seat Cushion Replacement - Rear in
Seats.

A REAL pain! If you don't wana take the rear of the car apart there is an
alternative. Cut the old speaker basket with a power saw, bend and remove
old speaker basket rims, use self drill screws and mount the new speakers
from the bottom. 30 mins top. Wear gloves and eye protection.
