My 1996 405 has a Alpine 8046 Security Alarm system installed.
This system is of the microwave sensor type with an inner and outer sector.
After a tail lamp blew, the park and tail light no longer flash when the
system is armed or disarmed. The lamps otherwise function normally.
I am hopefully assuming that a fuse has blown, associated with the alarm
system.
The system was already installed in the car when I bought it and so haven't
a clue where the main module would be fitted.
Would anyone have any idea where the main module for this type of alarm
is most likely fitted in a 405.
Thanks in advance.

The location depends on the quality of the installation. If it was a lousy
installation you´ll probably find the module under the dashboard by the
steering wheel. They usually just grab a plastic tie and fasten the module
to the bundle of wires down there. If you´re lucky (or unlucky) enough to
have bought one of those rare cars with a decent alarm installation, then
the module is probably deep beneath the dashboard, near the center, where
you have to take apart the dashboard to find it.

BTW, I don´t think it´s a fuse, it´s most likely the relay for the flashers.
I had one of those on a Daihatsu and it had a Bosch 30 amp relay to blink
the lights on and off. Follow the wires out of the module and you´ll find
it.

I´ve never bothered to put an alarm on my two Peugeots or the Renault.
Thieves over here run away screaming when they see a french car. My father
left his 405 open and with the keys in the ignition from 8 am to 7:30 pm
once, and they didn´t even take the radio (and the car was parked in an bad
part of town)

Found the module, Centre Console top left hand drivers footwell.

Two relays checked out OK. Found three inline fuse cartriges top righthand side
of drivers footwell. Two 10 amp and a 3 amp. Problem was a 10 amp fuse. One of
those Japanese manufactured cartridge types that look OK but for some reason go
open circuit in the cap. Had a spate of those here a few years ago.
Alarm now works as advertised.
