Soap and hot water....no work
Turtle wax bug/tar remover...no work
Mcquiars quick detailer...no work.
Carburetor cleaner works...but I worry it will hurt the finish.

Hm. Good question.
Being a victim of pine sap myself, my first recommendation is to get the
stuff off your car as soon as you find it.
Carburetor cleaner might be too harsh and destroy your clear coat. Ask a
professional about that.
I recently tried to remove label stickum from clear polycarbonate. Goo
Gone did the job without harming the plastic at all.
Don't forget to Google the problem.

http://www.thriftyfun.com/tf000301.tip.html -- not sure what I think about
the nail polish trick, don't know about Windex. But if it worked in My Big
Fat Greek Wedding, maybe it'll work for this? :-)

Alcohol seems to be a popular option. Again, no personal recommendations to
contribute.

DONT use nail polish remover!
it's mostly acetone, and that will harm your paint.
pine sap is turpentine-based. once it dries,though....

Thanks!
Very helpful.
Goo gone...ng.
WD 40 some effect, required some rubbing, need more testing on that.
Ice trick did not seem to work, although it might be good for the big
thick raised blobs, I did not have any of those this time.
Denatured Alcohol....worked well. Although I did not have any of
those big flat blobs to try it on. On the kind that are flat and
white it did well. Although there may still be a mark left because
the Pine Sap will damage the clear coat.
regards.

Most tree sap is water soluble... but for those that are not...
denatured alcohol should work fine. I have never seen a case where
alcohol has hurt a car's finish.

You can also remove tree sap by using an ice cube. Put the ice cube on the
sap for a few seconds them just flick it away with your finger nail;
