I have a 98 Pathfinder 5 Speed and have noticed a vibration in the
steering wheel at around 90-110 Km/h. Wheel balancing and changing the
tires hasn't helped. Does anyone else have the same problem, and if so
has your dealer found the cause of the problem.

My 97 automatic also has this problem since day 1. Balanced the wheels
twice but didn't help at all. The vibration is intermitten but it's
there always after a quick acceleration to 110-120km/h. The good news
is it hasn't gotten worst after 35,000km.

True,

I'm not shure if safety is an issue with the lemon law in my state.

Do Pathfinders have steering dampers. I've heard of solving these
problems by replacing them.

The dealer has suggested fitting a damper, the problem is more than
slight, unfortunately I don't know if there is such a thing as alemon
law in Canada.

Hi all...

I'm new to this list as I've just bought a '98 Pathfinder Chilkoot 5spd...
I've got about 3000kms on mine, and I notice the same problem - mine seems
to shake worst between 90-120, and then it isn't quite as bad... now, I've
been told that I am particularly sensitive to shimmy in the past, but I will
be taking this up with my dealer when i go for my first service...

On another note, does anyone know where I can get skidplates for my PF? The
dealer doesn't sell them, and has no clue where I can get one... and
internet searches haven't turned up anything... if anyone knows, could you
please email me direct... and maybe post too, I think there are a lot of
people who would be interested!

Thanks,

Ayan

90-120 mph? #1-I hope you are kidding.
#2. Pathfinders are not capible of that speed.
#3. What are you, stupid?

The original post is from a Canadian pathfinder owner. Here the speed
is in kilometers per hour and 90 to 120 km/hr is approximately 55 to 75
mph.

My 96 pathfinder also has the same problem and I have had no luck in
getting it fixed.

the vibration can come from anything. most likely wheel ballance, alignment,
bad shocks.
i would go to GORHINO for most skid-plates,etc. check if its only on a
particuler stretch of road?

I have a 1997 pathfinder with vibrates sometimes. However I have severe front
tire wear on the outside shoulders at 15,000 miles. Are you experiencing this
wear?

Are you sure yer alignment is right? Could yer rotor(s) be warped?

Check these things

I own a 96 pathfinder and at 35,000 km I had to replace all my tires due to outer wear (at my expense). I read in Consumer Reports Magazine that the suspension is not all that it should be. Nissan also blamed me for not rotating my tires every 10,000 km. I think I am also getting the same type of wear on my new tires. As to the vibration, have your dealer check the alignment, when I brought mine in the Nissan dealer replaced both front struts, but like I said I am still getting outer wear on the tires. Let me know how you make out.
