I have a Nissan Almera (Pulsar) 2.0 GTI 1998 and I'm wondering about its
OBD? protocol.
The diagnostics connector is a 14-pin connector in the fuse box and as far
as I know it should be a 16-pin connector if it was OBD-II compatible.
The dealer uses a Consult (or Consult-2) tool to get the codes out. I'm
wondering if I can use a generic scan tool
or even the Opendiag PCB http://www.planetfall.com/~jeff/obdii/ and some
software to read the codes?
There is a scan tool called ConZult, which is for Nissan 300ZX and it has
the same connector as my car. I downloaded the software and poked the serial
port of my computer with an oscilloscope but I did't see any signals. Maybe
it needs some of the pins to be grounded before it sends anything...?
I was able to pull the codes out by connecting the IGN and CHK pins of the
diagnose connector...the MIL light showed the code 55 which means "No
problemo). There is no LED/switch in the ECU like some Nissan models has.
Thanks in advance and greetings from Finland

For all your Nissan Almera (Pulsar) 2.0 GTI needs, have a look at the Nissan
Almera Owners Club @ http://www.almeraownersclub.com/
On the site (once registered, free) you will get access to forums with appox
another 220 GTI, Si, SRi, owners.....some of which have Nissan contacts or
work for Nissan.
I am a member there and have been since October last year, we mainly have
members from the UK but have some from other countries, including Finland.
Hope to see you on the site.
Cheerz for now and good luck
