I am debating between a fully loaded 98 camry v6, and a 99 red se limited
maxima also fully loaded. which one is faster? They are both automatic.
Thanks for you opinion in advance.

The Camry handles a hell of a lot better than an Explorer. My
parents have a 1997 Camry LE V6 and the thing can really move.
In my opinion the car corners pretty flat. The tires are bit
weak but it is quite easy to haul ass on a mountain road if you
get over the *constant* squealing from the OEM tires. The tires
on my 2000 GXE 5spd are better.

Despite what people in this group would have you believe the
Camry is a fast car (in family sedan terms). It easily smokes
any Explorer. The auto does 0-60 in 8.0 seconds. The engine is
more powerful than pre 2000 Maximas. Of course it's not as fast
as my 2000 GXE 5spd but it's probably not much slower than the
auto. The Toyota automatic is flawless.

PS. But I'll be damned if the Camry isn't the most boring car to
drive. too easy.

I have to agree with the post previous to me that Camry is indeed
fairly fast. About a month ago, I had the opportunity to help
move a family member down to Florida. We drove from Michigan all
the way down in her '98 Camry LE V6. This trip was very
revealing about the Camry...it is indeed a very pleasant,
refined and competant driving car...almost as competant as the
Maxima (my parents have a '95 GLE, I have a '91 GXE) but the
emotional attachment to the Camry is nil. I LOVE my car, I can't
say that about the Camry, even as nice at it is.

The current generation of Camry V-6 automatic and the 99 Maxima
automatic accelerate vary similarly, variations between cars being such
that some Maximas may be a little faster and some Camry's a little
faster, due to production variations. You can lump Accord Automatics
into the group too for accelaration comparisons.
My advise would to be to drive both and make your decision based on the
condition of the two vehicles and how you like them. You seem satisfied
with the prices so I won't comment on that.

THE MAXIMA IS DEFINETLY FASTER, AND IN MY MIND A BETTER BUY. ESPECIALLY THE SE
LIMITED.

Except the look. I think Maxima's appearance has taken several steps in the
wrong direction.
