What kind of car mats do you folks use? I just got a 2002 SE 6 speed
with frost interior, and I'm worried about staining the floors. In my
old car (Grand Cherokee) I have some cannon mats that work well, but
thought I'd see if you all had any other suggestions
Thanks
James

I just bought the ones that come with the car (have a 2kSE) and they seem to
be holding up very well here in massachusetts.

No-brainer. Nothing fits and lasts like the factory mats IMHO. They are
heavy, they fit, they don't slide around, and they clean up well. On the
other hand, they are more expensive.

I got the carpeted mats with the car but bought the all season rubber mats from
the nissan parts dept for winter. These are genuine Nissan mats that fit
perfect and have nice deep channels to trap snow etc. They were about $50

Here is one better, it is free.
I use cardboard box material.
cut the cardboard to the right size and slide it in.
you can leave a little more on the side so you can bend it over the
left foot rest area and protect the edge carpet.
When it is dirty, just trash it and make a new one. :)
one will last the whole winter.
all those christmas mailing box, now have a purpose. :)

Free, not better! Come on, you have a nice car and you're gonna use
cardboard as floor mats? Spend a few $$$....

Definition of Insanity: Spending $60 (invoice) for "custom" Nissan mats
that say "Maxima" on them. Ooooh!!!

Save $30, go to a local auto parts store and buy the same darn things w/o
the "Maxima" signature. Then take your savings and buy a case of good
German beer.

Excellent idea!

In our consumer oriented society, people have complety lost the
concept of "economy". We are so wasteful now it is a pleasure to
hear of someone with practical ideas for using what we have ready to
hand instead of just buying something else to add to the waste
stream!

Thank you.

Whoa, whoa, whoa, hold on there, buckaroo. Let's make the distinction
between "cheap" and "wasteful spending". I never said you end up with mats
made from cheap carpet that don't fit right and slide around all over the
place. You did.

My point was: I bought mats of high quality that fit just fine and didn't
slide around all over the place -- for less than half the price! The only
thing it didn't have was the Maxima signature. Is the Maxima signature
worth $30+ dollars to you?

I give Nissan enough of my cash on a new car; I'm not going to throw money
at them for items like car mats. Let's hope you did fall for the
"undercoating" or extended warranty gimmicks as well.

Thank you, Bob!

Amazing how people will not think anything of spending $25K+ for a car and
then skimp on something like floor mats!

OK, pardner, you go ahead and you use cardboard - I'll stick to the real
thing. Heck, why not just buy a Hyundai and save another $15K??? In fact,
why not even buy a car - use public transport and cut down
pollution.....lol

amazing........

Just curious - where did you get these "high quality" mats for half the
price? You mean you drove a new car off the lot w/o car mats?

Something wrong with the factory mats?

I got factory mats but have always kept carpet samples on the floor too,
from Home Depot. They were about $2 each. They don't slide around too
much, and the original tan floor mats look almost brand new. The carpet
samples are bound on the edges, almost color matched, and are now as black
as my nice mats would otherwise be. In fact, it's time to go back to Home
Depot.

I got a big piece for the trunk too. Really paid off when some milk got
spilled. I didn't cry over spilled milk!

How does a NAPA oil filter fit? They replicate the product, of course. So
my auto parts store replicated the dimensions of the Maxima floor mats. I'm
not saying the store has replicated *all* vehicles, all models. But they
just happened to have the Maxima style in stock. Simple.

Bob, after digging into the sales guy's holdback and getting the car for
under invoice (before rebates), he/she would be hard pressed to throw in the
mats. But if you can negotiate that successfully, my hat's off to you. I
can make my dog sit, but I can't make the Sales Dept. throw in the mats.

R&S Strauss in Parsippany, NJ has them. And driving off the lot w/o car
mats is like going to bed w/o sheets. So I just picked them up before I
went to get my new car. Bang. Done.

Good idea with the mats in the trunk! I always worry about milk
leaking/spilling when I go food shopping....

LL Bean has some really deep grooved car mats in their catalog.
Pricey, but they really trap the dirt and water.
