That is about as close as I can come to the sound my 1996 Maxima GXE makes in
the morning. It only happens when it is under 45 degrees outside, and it only
happens for a second immediatley after I let go of the key when starting the
car. At first I thought it must be the starter, but then I noticed that my
brake light stays on (not the warning indicator, but the actual brake light
that comes on when the park brake is engaged).

I've checked the brake fluid level and it is OK, and the brake light does
eventually go off after the car warms up (it seems that you can make it go off
sooner by shutting the car off after 4 or 5 minutes, and then restarting it,
and accelerating hard), but I really don't like hearing that noise or seeing
the light.

Has anyone else ever heard of this or know just what it might be?

Thanks.

Darrin

The brake light comes on for either low fluid or at-least-partially-engaged
parking brake. Do you use the parking brake when you park? Maybe the
system is binding when you release it in cole weather and the noise is
caused by it still being partially engaged...
