Options on stereos?

OK. I have a 2k Maxima and I love the car, but this stereo sucks. As you
know, the stereo takes up a great deal of space in the car and it would look
incredibly stupid to put a newer stereo in the car with all of that extra
space there. Does anyone know of a cover plate or some kind of option I
could have? Would just an amp and a speaker upgrade do the trick or would I
fry the stereo with a powerful amp?

Hi,
You don't say whether you have the Bose system or the Non Bose. That is VERY
important. I have an aftermarket in mine (non Bose) and there is a "pocket"
you can put beneath the stereo that makes it look OK. There are some "double
din" units that take up the whole space. I did not choose that because of
the options I wanted in the stereo. Kenwood, Aiwa, Pioneer, and one other
manufacturer make a double din that will fill the complete hole. They are
limited in their options though.....I wanted 3 sets of RCA outs (one for
subwoofer) and I wanted an MP3 player, which none of the full size ones
offer in one package.

2Maximas - I have the non-bose unit. I am also looking for one with 3 RCA's
and mp3 player capabilities. Can you direct me to where I can get the 'face
plate' and what stereo would you recommend? Any thoughts on speakers and
where I could fit an extra two? What about amps?

Go do some reading at www.maxima.org in their Electronics and Audio
forum. You will see lots of options that other owners have done....
