the radio ant
a smaller ant like plug (the ground)
the normal harness plug with the speaker wires & etc
two thick black cables
I hooked up my Pioneer 7000R to everything except for the two thick black
cables and a single wire from the harness. All works great except that I
have no sound coming from the two tweeters sitting high on the dash board
(the remaining four speakers are functional). From reading on the net, I've
come to the conclusion that one of those thick black cables runs to a
factory amp and powers those two tweeters. I have more preouts on the back
of my Pioneer 7000R waiting to be used.
My questions...
What is the single wire that I didn't use from the harness?
I used:
the 8 speaker wires
the power ant remote, the illumination (the one the tells your radio when
your head lights are on)
the ground
and the two power wires (constant and ignition)
What are the two black cables?
I think that one runs to a factory amp that powers the tweeters. What's the
other one and which one is which?
How can I hook the factory amp up to the RCA pre-out on the back of my
radio?
Where could I find this information or a diagram of the wiring?
Please also send your response to my email.

Does your car have a CD changer? I am almost positive that one of the thick
black wires is the DIN plug for a Mitsubishi CD changer. I am not sure
about the other one. although the GS-T & GSX Infinity systems are powered by
a (puny) Infinity amp underneath the passenger seat. I think the original
setup powers all 6 speakers (2 tweeters on the dash, two on the door, and a
pair of 2-way 6x9's at the back).
If you intend to use the factory amp, good luck. It must be easier and I
think more worth your while in buying an aftermarket amp to power all 6
speakers (which you should change too since you've already gotten rid if the
very decent-sounding factory head unit).
Why did you change the Infinity, btw?

news:38d26c16$0$63...@news.voyager.net...
I just bought a service manual for my 98 Spyder, it's the same
electrically as your car. I'm hoping that the wiring diagrams will help
me figure the system out. There is an amp under the passenger seat that
powers all of the speakers, but the head unit itself also has
amplification in it. Very weird. There seems to be some kind of
bypassing going in when you disconnect things. The 6 pin DIN connector
to the amp is your 4 line level channels, amp turn on, and audio ground.
Email me and I'll let you know what I find in the manual.
BTW, Replace those paper tweeters on the dash. It's the easiest,
quickest way to drastically improve the sound. They are so incredibly
dry and harsh sounding.

The speaker outs at the harness at the back of the radio are connected
IN PARALLEL with the speaker outs from the under-seat amplifier for the
door and rear speakers. The dash tweeters are connected only to the
under seat amp.
You can make it work the way you have it by making a few jumps at the
under seat amp's output connector. All wire numbers I refer to are from
left to right, top row first looking into the amp's connector, or
looking into the amp's harness connector from the wire side. 1-10 are
top row 11-22 are bottom row. You must have the amp disconeected for
this to work.
Connect 6 to 14 (left door- to left dash-)
Connect 16 to 4 (right door- to right dash-)
Connect 5 to 13 through an appropriate capacitor for high pass (left
door+ to left dash+)
Connect 15 to 3 through an appropriate capacitor for high pass (right
door+ to right dash+)
Other useful info:
Amp 1,9 are both ground
Amp 2,10 are poth +12v
Amp 17 rear left +
Amp 18 rear left -
Amp 7 rear right +
Amp 8 rear right -
I have NOT tested this. I have taken this info from the Mitsubishi
manual wiring diagram for a 98 Eclipse. Use at your own risk. You may
want to test jump somehow before hacking wires off.
The tweeter on the dash just snap in. Use a small screwdriver as deep in
as you can to pop them out.
They are 3" paper mid/tweeters and sound like hell. The plastic that
makes up the grille and mounting snaps is melted into the speaker. You
have to use a soldering iron to melt the plastic away and remove the
speaker. If you want to re-use the original grille, you will have to
find a way to rig your new tweets into the housing. You'll see what I
mean, real self-explanatory.

My '98 Eclipse Spyder has 3" papers in the dash. Your results may vary.

Enjoy!
P.S. Alpine makes a .34 inch super tweeter that will fit in this location without
any modifications!
