have checked glow plugs and power supply all ok. Changed fuel filter and
filter head and inserted non return valve on fueline. when starting fires
up ok but seems airlocked and won't rev for twenty seconds, smokes, then
runs ok and starts ok for rest of day. if left overnight same symptons.
Any ideas?

I too have the typical starting problem with air-locks getting in
somehow. OK for a few hours after use but overnight the fuel line gets
full of air; eventually this clears and the car runs fine.

It is NOT apparently the fuel pump seals which I am told are sound.

It has been a long-term problem which has gradually got worse over the
last two/three years. I anyone really knows what is going on I would
like to know - so would my repair mechanic!
