03 navigator check park assist comes on sometimes

I have a 03 navigator, and when i put the gear in reverse, the check
park assist comes on the message thing sometimes. Most of the time it
works, but when it doesn't, it won't work like 4 or 5 times in a row
then works again. Any idea what the problem is?
