I have purchased a Ferrari replica on a Pontiac firebird chassis (not a
fiero). The car has the name Machiavelli on the custom made leather molding
on the dash. The rest of the dash has a wood grain insert on top of the
normal gm dash. The look is fantastic doesnt look like any other kit i have
seen.

Does anyone know anything about this car , any and all info would be
helpful.

I was told that the car was marketed by Philip Michael Thomas (Don Johnson's
partner) from Miami Vice and that it was not around for very long. I can
find no info anywhere on the net about this reference or this car.

thanks in advance

Dave

Specs

8 cyl 5 liter engine (in front)

Hi Dave,

I'm sure that you will be receiving a lot of info on this car from this NG.
What you have there is a factory sponsored kit car.

Pontiac marketed the Machiavelli for a short time and contracted out those
cars for sale in its showrooms. Have seen a few over the years and they
appear to have been built well. Every once in awhile one turns up for sale
in the DuPont Registry. You could check a couple of back issues and possibly
locate another owner who has more information on the car than you do at the
moment.

Good luck in your search,

The only company I know of that makes this kit was at
http://www.exotickits.com but I tried to go to them to check it out and
their server was not responding. Hopefully it will be back online soon.
Try it out.
Good Luck

Hey dont knock automatics. Corvettes have them, formula 1 Ferraris,
Porschs too. I drive my kit daily in traffic and wish it was automatic
instead of 4-speed. (God, am I thankful its not 5 or 6 speed)

I am afraid I have to disagree with your statement of it being a factory
sponsored kit car.

Pontiac had company build a 308 look-a-like on a Fiero chassis NOT the F
body car. It was called a MERA and was only available in late 87 and early
88. There were 249 total cars built and sold thru Pontiac dealers until the
"F" company sued and shut down production.

ALL the Fiero rebodies of 308s and 328s after that were splashes from the
original MERA (or splashes from splashes ...).

The 308 body kits on the Fiero were very close to the size of the real
Ferrari 308 (wheelbase within an inch, length within 6").

The kit on the F body cars are way too big and too tall and what is that
engine doing in the front? And seats for 4????

Pontiac made both. one was a 308 copy (MERA), on Fiero chassis, and the
other was not a copy but an original design. It was on the Firebird
chassis. It had a high rear wing similar to Ferrari F-40, very low all
around ground effects, and bulging fenders like 944 Porsche. They did
have reworked interior with Recaro leather and T-tops and competition
looking wheels. Even more limited production than Mera, only 1 year. As
far as I know, it was only available in one color, Torch Red.

Thanks to everyone who replied to my original message about my machiavelli.
Sorry my Internet provider screwed up their mail and news server leaving me
high and dry for about a week. Hopefully all of your responses got through
to me.

I was thinking of starting a web page dedicated to the Machiavelli and
possibly broading out to all firebird / camero donor kitcars. Any thoughts
on this ? Is there a call for a web page like this. I see several web pages
on the MERA but none on mine .

Thanks again
Dave

Call me silly but i feel like I am not in control of the car unless it is a
standard. I HATE city traffic myself but its a small price to pay. But on
the other hand I was talking on my cell phone driving and changing the
channels on the radio all at the same time the other day. Guess things like
that are a little more difficult in a standard in city traffic. BTW what do
you drive if you dont mind me asking...

Paul I agree with all of your points about whats wrong with the f body style
cars. Thats exactly why I wanted one (confused let me explain)
the Firebird is way to big , yup your right and tall also ... means my tall
friends and relatives can hop right in and go for a ride with me at any
time. It also confuses people as to what the hell the car is. (i love it)
I listened to some co-workers looking at my car in the parking lot (before
they knew it was mine) and they were saying things like
" but it looks to big to be a ferrari" , "yeah but its too big to be a fiero
kit" was the reply "maybee its really old" was his response. At this
point they looked at the registration and were even more confused. At this
point I knew I really liked my car. Yeah it is not LIKE a Ferrari but then
again its not really supposed to be. I can sit 4 people in it , and have
room for groceries. Also the best part is I can continue to go to my
mechanic of many years who I trust for engine work. Its just a normal 8
cylinder pontiac engine gotta love it. If I could deal with the mechanical
hassles (and price or repairing them) of owning a Ferrari I would own a real
one, but I cant so this is a close as I can get for now.

Dave,

Now there are some good reasons for your car!!! You like it, you can have
your friends ride with you (I can have one other "friend" with me ;^), your
car gets lots of attention and confusion, and the number one reason to have
a Ferrari kit (component) car ... you don't have to have a Ferrari mechanic
on retainer!!!

The problems I had with my car were, one I had to change the speedometer
from 120 mph to 160 mph so that the younger set would stop saying "It will
only do 120 mph!" Hey it was a Fiero rebody, it COULD only do about 120 mph
(stock) but I didn't want
that to be known! ;^) so I put in a 160 mph speedometer. Then I could
honestly say I have seen the speedometer indicate 160! The reason was the
VDO electric speedometer always did a self check on power up and moved it's
needle to 160 and then back to 0. I know, I didn't actually go 160 mph in
the car but I wasn't lying either! ;^)

The second was when they recognized that it was a Fiero rebody, they would
say "It's only a Fiero..." That used to !@#$ me off. I got over it.

My next kit (an Artero by PISA), will have another custom interior that will
hide the Fiero look AND it will have a 3800 supercharged V6 from a
Thunderbird! It that doesn't confuse the on lookers ... Fiero? what
Fiero? SHHHH!!!! This is a Ford prototype! ;^)

Just found this on a random search but my dad used to build these cars in the 80s. If you need any info I'm sure I can ask and I believe he still has all the dealer books from back then
