Hello to all,

New to karting and I've heard that replacing the valve springs before
each event will produce higher revs. In finding TDC, what needs to lined
up and where? I know you get the engine to a compression cycle and look
for the screw on the magnet. What does that get lined up with?

Are there any good books out there on engine repair/tuning as it relates
to karting; especially for the novice. I don't always want to be asking
the local karting supplier to be checking the engine for simple thing
which could easily be done by myself.

Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Pierre Gagnon

We race using GX 200. It is very important to replace springs for every
race. TDC is easy to find.

2 Ways.
1) On the starter Pulley (the small aluminium part next to the flywheel
there is a arrow pointing outward. Look at the top of the engine through the
red recoil cover, slowly turn the engine over until you see the mark, OR.
2) Take out the spark plug, put a screwdriver into the chamber and turn the
engine over until you feel the piston at TDC.

A good read on the GX (mostly 160 engine) is:

Good luck.
