I´m about to start karting for fun this summer. I´m rookie in the technical
side of karting and like to ask about some basic mainteinance issues
concerning yamaha KT100 engine

- What are the basic mainteinance operations with this engine. Changing the
piston every 5 hours...what else ?
- The fuel. Non leaded with oil somekind? What ratio 32:1 ?
- Carburator tuning ? Air&fuel mixture ?

Thanks for your answer in advance

Piston every 5hrs might be overkill, when the power drops off, then
think ring or ring/piston. Do open it up and inspect/clean.
Fuel can vary, the club we race at has spec. fuel ( everyone runs the
same and it's tested oxidizers ), it's 1 gal (US) Sunoco blue ( I
believe leaded 108 octane) and 7 oz. Burris two stroke mix.
For the carb the biggest thing is changing the diaphrams and gaskets,
it they are old they will not pump fuel effectivly.
A good site for information is Ekartingnews.com, they have links to good
articals, a tech forum, forums broken down to 2/4 stroke, sprint, oval
and enduro racing. Best of all it's not one of those dead sites with no
action or content. Have Fun!

There a book called "Racing The Yamaha KT100S" that's pretty good and
easy to understand for beginners. Maybe start there. I think it will
answer most of your questions for now. I've seen it all over. Check
www.apskarting.com . I know they have it.

I have a KT100 that has ran at least 30 hours on the same piston, but it did start to loose top rev power.
You can see the performance in this video. 2 hours of driving after this, the outside crankshaft bearing gave up.
