OBD Cable for 2nd Generation Lantra 1999

Can anyone recommend an OBD interface cable for laptop to the
diagnostic socket for my 1999 Lantra that actually works? I have tried
a standalone tool, the Geniscan 300, but it doesn't work with this
car. I would prefer just an interface cable if possible rather than a
complete tool as I have quite a lot of OBD software I could use if
only I could communicate with the diagnostic socket; it does not seem
to be OBD2 compliant.

I use this interface for my Ford F150, my son's Accent, my wife's Kia
Sportage, and a few friends have borrowed it to check out their
vehicles. Hope this info helps.

The problem is that UK did not go OBD2 compliant until 2001 and
Hyundai seem to have exploited this to the full by fitting some kind
of customised diagnostic interface that (so far) only seems readable
at the main dealer's. I have tried a multi-protocol OBD2 reader on the
socket witout success. So I will need a response from someone in the
UK/Europe; but thanks for the suggestion.

I was unaware of the timing of OBD2 in the UK. Makes sense now why you
have problems reading the port. Hope you find an answer. Thanks for
the info about the UK. Always nice to learn at least one new thing
each day :)
