A friend of mine has a 1984 Mercury Grand Marquis whose brake lights
stopped working. He wants to check the fuses, but he cannot find the
fusebox. Can anyone tell me where it is? Thanks.

The fuse box is located on the drivers side under the dash. That may
not be the problem, the wiring to the brake light switch breaks.
Inspect the connector at the switch at the brake pedal. Slightly pull
on the wires to see if they are broken. If so, any auto parts should
have the connector, as this is a common problem.

Under the steering column, to the left.

Remove two screws down near the bottom of the panel, also unscrew the bezel
around the mirror adjustment. (I'm assuming 1984 would be similar, if not
exact, to my 1985 Grand Marquis)

Also, check your wiring and the switch on the brake pedal. Mine seems to
break too frequently! And, my lenses have a bad habit of filling up with
rain and shorting things out. What a pain.

yes, you have to actually check something, not throw parts at it. Is the
alt even charging? get a voltmeter and find out. KB
