I have a 1988 Ford Ranger PU 2x2 2.0L Standard 5-speed that has
probably the WORST carb system know to the Western World. I had a new
Jasper complete engine put in truck in Dec (117,000 mi and body/frame
still ok). I wanted to eliminate the old Asian Model-Y 1bbl. carb, but
my mechanic told me that no after-market carbs exist for the
application. ("New" carb from Ford lists at over $850; remanufacture at
$450--------ouch! Plus, end up with same problems later?)

Symptoms: No probs wth electric choke I am aware of: truck starts fine
in cold weather (I'm in Michigan). I drive it 5-6 miles, engine temp
comes up to normal operating temp. Now, the fun begins......If it is
damp or raining, truck acts as if it is "governed": no acceleration
response at idle. If stopped, difficult to get moving. Acts flooded
with choke plate straight up; blows nasty black exhaust as if running
rich. If weather dry, same problems do not manifest
although curve idle seems high.

Carb is Motorcraft #: E87E-9510-AA and is evidently last year Ford
carb'd Rangers (figures!)

I hope any of you folks can give me some suggestions either to fix
existing prob or suggest replacement carb/source.

Thank You, Fred

If I don't miss mw guess the carb either has a heating plate under it or a
hot air system from the exhaust to the air intake operated by a vacuum motor
if its a plate check it for power when cold should be 12v if its a hot air
blend system check to make sure all the hoses are attached and vacuum motor
for door works

hope that helps
