History:
- 44,000 miles: Shudder was eliminated by doing a Transmission
Service, according to the invoice 10 pints of fluid was used
- 60,000 miles: Shudder came back. Ford Dealer put the car on
their computer and cam e to the following conclusions:
a) Transmission Service required
b) spark plug wires and plugs needed to be replaced
I had the dealer do the transmission service, according to the
invoice 11 pints of fluid was used. I personally replaced the
spark plugs and wires. The plug wires are Allied and came
with a lifetime warrenty. The plugs are OEM Motorcraft.
The most recent service seemed to eliminate the problem for a period of
about 1500 miles but now I am experienceing the problem again. It is
normally occuring under load (going up a slight incline) and appears to
be occuring between 3rd and 4th.
Any ideas what I should do at this point?
Thanks
They only changed about half the fluid. This transmission holds 10-12
*QUARTS*, not pints.
Change all the fluid. Go to a place that has a T-Tech machine. Many
quick lube places have them. This will change all the fluid. Don't worry
about the filter-you've had it changed twice recently, it doesn't need
another change.
You could also find a shop that has a diagnostic scope. This can
check the wires as the car runs. You could have one or more bad
wires that can cause similar symptoms.

Had a similar problem but in my case it was more of a sense the lockup
was slipping. Servicing the transmission did not help but changing the
plug wires eliminated the problem because it was actually a misfire.
The problem has not come back in over 20,000 miles. My understanding
of the problem with the plug wires is that the factory plug boots do
not prevent arcing to the head, especially if there is any moisture
present. Also the plug wires on these cars are very long, much longer
than typical V8s.
I would remove the wires and make sure there is no moisture around the
plugs. Based upon the design of the 4.6L head, moisture could easily
get trapped around the plugs.
I used Magnecore KV85 wires.

I took the car to the FORD dealer, he said it's a bad T.R. Sensor and
it will cost $250.00 to replace it with labor. I told them okay and
now everything works good.
Please let me know if this was your problem also..
