Hey guys,

I'm looking for the Coil Spring compressor as show in the Mustang shop
manual. It's Identified as part number T63P-5310-A for the Mustang or Tool
5310-C for the comet.

Any one know if an after market version of these are available? If so where
can I find them?

I have tried a number of compressors but haven't found one that isn't right
in the way when I try to mount the new springs.

Thanks
Dennis

I rented one from a Rental place. Snap-on sells them for about $200.00
You might even check-out a suspension place for a rental, this tool is
hardly ever used anymore , so they might like the income from it's use .

Great idea I'll check and see if Midas or a place like that has one.

go to advance auto parts or autozone and ask for an internal spring
compressor. When you get it, go to www.angelfire.com/tx4/68coupe and click
on the link that says "Spring in Action", it will show you two pictures of
how the spring compressor is suppose to look when installed. It will take
you awhile on one side to get used to this setup, but when you do, the other
side will be a snap. Another good place for this topic, and millions of
others, is www.vintage-mustang.com go there, click on the link that says
"NEW discussion area". than click on "forum index". This is the place where
tons of knowledgeable Mustangers hang out and post questions and answers to
any mustang question....Good luck! Email me if you have any further
questions as I have done all the suspension work on my 68.

Dennis,

During 'suspension tuning' on my 40 coupe with Mustang II front suspension,
I used a set of coil spring compressors from Harbor Freight Tools. Had
various spring sets on and off several times.

Cheap. About $15. But a bit risky. One of them from my first set failed,
but the built in safety tether kept pieces (and springs) from flying. They
replaced in with hardly a glance at the broken pieces.

Good luck.

Touch the hot wrench to the old spring in a few places, release the shock
and dump the pieces.

Use your nifty new compressor to install the new ones.
Do not let the spring get away from you - they bite really hard.
