I replaced the in line fuse for the cd player and i get no power. This
was working for about a year and a 1/2. I have an 86 Fiero se. All of
a sudden when I turned the car on the radio had no power. I threw back
in the old factory delco stereo and noticed that it would not save the
presets when i turned the car off, and the clock was reset. Could this
problem (not saving the presents) be causing my stereo to not power on
at all? What other fuses should I check? I have been told to check the
battery fuse. Is this where to start? Has anyone else experienced this
problem? Or do I need to contact Pioneer. I have a feeling it is a
fuse problem somewhere and not the Pioneer CD Stereo. I also am
experiencing no intermittent light problems. I haven't checked to see
if the cigar lighter works. I was also told this fuse was linked to
the stereo. Please help. Any of your comments would be appreciated.

Thanks in advanced,

Stumped

I had an 86 SE too with the same problem. It is a second power line to
the radio that came loose. Mine did and drove me crazy for a few days
until I found the wire that came loose. Hook it back up and presto
chango it will work again.

Thanks for responding to me. What second power line in the radio
should I look for? What does it look like. So its not any of the
fuses? Did your cd player go dead too? Did you have the same symptoms
as me?

Thanks
86

There should be two power lines. One for power when the key is on and
the radio switch is on. The other powers the radio to keep track of the
time and presets and is on ALL the time. Sounds like that's the one Les
is talking about and sounds like it fell off, burned out, or blew a
fuse. Without it, the radio will play but never remember time or presets.

You might pick up a Haynes manual. They have schematics in the back that
show where all these wires connect. I'm assuming you have only a Pioneer
CD replacement unit for the stock radio - not one of those big things
that half goes in the truck and will hold 400 CDs. That's a whole nuther world.

There is a connector with a white wire and an orange wire that goes to the stock radio. 1 is
12V and the other is ground. These 2 wires keep your clock and radio presets set properly.

I take some of my post back - the connector has an orange wire and a brown wire. The orange is
12V all the time the brown one is for the radio lights.

Now that you mentioned it I do remember the wire color. 86Fiero needs to
find the two hot wires and make sure that they are connected. Mine was
rigged with the wire just sitting in the fuse block and I knocked it
loose with my big feet.
