I had it done at a place that works on a/c units, not at the dealer.... in
fact I think anytime your older a/c unit needs work, they need to change it
over as mandated by the fed?? I heard that somewhere.... as to how to do it,
well I have no knowledge.

R-134a is not as efficient. If your R-12 AC was just barely adequate,
going to R-134a is a waste of time and money.

R134a conversion has to be done CORRECTLY.
Since I am qualified I will inform you as to what needs done.
First Do Not Buy the CHEAPEST kit.
walmart autozone el-cheapo kits are total CRAP
Buy the ones with real steel or brass fittings.
The condenser on the caravan is barely adequate for the task with R-12
and since R-134a is slightly less efficient you will notice it.
You can replace the condeser with a newer model and add cooling fan.

Follow the instructions on the kit, or have a real A/C specialist shop do
the work.

Did this on my 89 Shelby CSX and on the 91 Spirit RT. In
both cases removed all hoses and allowed to drain. Replaced
receiver/dryer with new unit and purchased new O-rings and
charge adapters. Then took it to friendly local mechanic
who drew system down, checked for leaks, and then charged
the system. Both cooled very well.
