I didn't know Dodge had a 5.9L Diesel. I thought this was the gasoline
360 cid motor? In any case, my 5.2L '97 1500 stays around the mid mark
and doesn't move much... :)

Then it goes on to list the possibilities of leaks and loose parts. But
since my 94 Cummins has been cycling ever since I first took notice two
years ago, and there are no leaks or loose parts, I would conclude that
it is the way the thermostat works. I did buy a new thermostat to take
care of a slow warm up problem, but have not installed it yet so I
couldn't tell you if a new one doesn't cycle as bad as an older one.
