My new Dodge Dakota 5 speed pops out of !1st gear when leaving from a
stopped position, usually at a stop light. Anyone else having this problem

Take it in for warranty work.. I should NOT pop out of first (or any other
gear) under any circumstance.
a 2000 should still be within the 36000/3yr warranty :^)

My '99 ram 1500 did similar things (especially 2nd and 4th though)... found
out 60k miles later the shifter had a hairline crack in it which eventually
failed completly. Get it checked under warranty or you can be like me and
do it yourself 60k miles later..
