I have been viewing the automotive groups for the past month or so. I
feel I can be of some assistance regarding spark plug and other related
issues. To assist me in finding your posts, please address your questions
to my attention. For example, ATTN: Mr SparkPlug...
I am looking forward to some interesting questions and hopefully also a
few laughs.

Why do you think you can be of assistance?

Oh?

I have some.
My '86 Suburban has the 6.2 litre engine. Which spark plugs should I use?
Same question, '79 Olds Delta 88 with the 350.
Also, my '91 Acclaim with the 2.6 litre 4-cylinder (made by Mitsubishi)
needs some work, I'm not for sure what it needs, I think it's something to
do with the fuel injection. This car has the 4-speed manual trans.
Also, my '81 Lincoln Town Car with the 460 and EEC-IV engine management
stalls when I drive under power lines. Why?
Also, my Canadian '83 Volvo 240 with B19A engine needs a new catalytic
converter. What's a good brand?
I have more questions, but I think that's enough for now. Your answers are
eagerly awaited.

I know this spark plug (not one of mine, mind you) that has problems...
errr... in the area of performance. It either fires to quick or not at all,
but rarely gets it bang on time. Can you help?
I'm going to take your offer seriously, I have no reason not to, and it just
so happens that I have a sprkplug question
My car a mitsubishi Colt 1.3 GLX Year 2000 UK model ( as I see you might be
posting from america)
The manual says to use NGK R BPR5ES 11
OR
Champion RNY11 ... I can't remember the rest of the champion code.
In the local store, the reccomended models were Champion EON1 702, Champion
085, champion 265??unsure.
First question, what should the plug gap be? for my car, is this the
standard factory set gap?
is Champion EON 702 the same as NGK copper core 702 the code for NGK 702
was also shown as something like BCPR 5ES or 6ES can't remember.
What do all the different types of spark plug do? are the expensive EON1
champions £20 / set really worth the money? twice the price of the cheaper
ones.
Is there a chart somewhere which will tell me all the plugs and their
equivalents? I am about to goto NGK homepage and Champion to investigate
this.
Shall I use the V grooved ones or the flat ones? the copper cores or the
normal?
And...
what is the difference between an NGK BPR5ES and an NGK BCPR6ES ? I know
the 6 means it runs a little cooler and the extra C means a 5/8 hex so does
that mean it is 5/8 of an inch and not 14mm? so you need a 5/8 plug spanner,
instead of a 14mm plug spanner. But the threads are the same on both plugs.
Why does the manufacturer want to make plugs with imperial hex heads on
them?
So does this mean then they are essentially the same plug but one runs a
little cooler.
Now what does hot and cold mean? 1 is hot and 10 is cold, but what does
this actually mean in terms of what the engine is doing? Do plugs rated 5
or 6 mean they are used for normal driving with a broad spectrum of
different driving environmentts encountered. 1 would mean someone who
drives too fast? and 10 means an old lady driving?
This chart may help :
RN9YC/CC = BPR6ES/ - 11 BIG HEX
RN11YC / CC = BPR5ES / - 11 BIG HEX
RC9YC / CC = BCPR9ES / - 11 SML HEX
RC10YC / CC = BCPR5ES / - 11 SML HEX
/ CC = BOTH COPPER CORED
