I just ran my Dakota down the highway and opened her up for the first time.
It ran like a striped ass ape right up to 100 and then it was like the
injection just fell out. It bogged way down, and then about 95mph, it kicked
back in. It feels like it has about 120 - 125mph in it, but it has that damn
governor. Anyone know how to disable or bypass the damn thing? Speedo goes
to 120, and I paid for this thing with a V8.... I should damn well be able
to go as fast it CAN go, no?

My chevy I traded in had the same thing. 350 in it, but capped at 100mph. It
was ridiculous.

P.S.
This mail is for anyone out there that can help, not for the ones that wish
to tell me I'm driving too damn fast. It's not your concern. Nothing for you
to see here, move along.....

Get the Mopar Performance Computer. You can get it from many places.
Search www.dakotart.com and do a search for jim mercedes. He will hook you
up with good prices. The MPC will take your speed govenor off and will not
void the warranty.

Will that performance comp also do the same in a 99 Sport 1500? What all
does that comp do?

Well if you do get the governor "removed", please also opt for some new tires.
Not certain how many truck tires are safety rated to 120 mph, but consider an
upgrade there as a necessity.

I'm not worried about seeing you here in this newsgroup. I'm concerned about
seeing you on the road!

The Mopar Performance engine controller (that's what the parts departments
call it) does several things, such as:
a) removes the speed limiting feature
b) raises transmission shift points
c) provides more aggressive fuel mapping (gives it more gas)
d) advances the timing somewhere around 4 degrees

You WILL notice a substantial gain in performance with it. The 3 main things
you should be aware of though are:
a) It is almost always necessary to run premium unleaded (DC recommends it
all the time)
b) You will have to have a dealership "flash" your mileage and v.i.n. into
it.
c) You ability to tow or haul very heavy loads will be compromised because
of the increased tendency for the engine to "ping" (because of the timing
mainly).

I have one on my 99 Dakota R/T and am very happy with it. It performed well
beyond what I expected.
Hope this info helps (even if a little long-winded),

Yeah but will the warranty cover the poor bastard he kills when he
looses control at that speed and runs into them. I hope a cop catches
him and yanks his license on the spot.

Going fast is fine, just do it on the race track.

of 5500rpm).

A 180 degree thermostat and Redline Water Wetter will help with the pinging.

In the word of George Carlin:

Ever notice that every one driving faster than you is a fucking moron, and
everyone driving faster than you is a fucking idiot?

Any moron that tries to take a truck with tires rated to about 85MPH to 120
on a public road simply needs to try that in my county...I will even make
sure he KNOWS the RIGHT roads to try it on...
Oh...one thing I WONT do, is help the boy get out of the Hege Pink Jail...I

Neal,
There is truth to that statement also, but there is a time and place for
everything. Just as you would not grab your wifes tit sitting in church, you
do not do stupid things on the public roads. They are called accidents.
Nobody expects them to happen. Everybody thinks they all happen to somebody
else. What happens when you are doing 100 mph down a seemingly deserted
public road and a 10 year old kid comes out from behind a tree on a bicycle?
do you want to live with that thump-thump sound the rest of your life??

Don't mean to preach, but that could have been my kid or your kid, then how
would you feel about 100 mph on public roads.

Save going fast for the track

The other "reality" of this is prosecutors are going to go after you with both
feet on felony manslaughter at the least driving that fast.

Not my concern, unless I happen to be on the road with you, or I happen to buy
the truck from you some day. Of course, you own the truck outright, and you did
this test on a racetrack, right, and bought special insurance in case you killed
yourself while you were at it.

Grow up. Nothing to see here.

Yeah it is neat. I love the look of surprise in the kiddie's little faces
when they are sliding up or across my windshield. They never realized a
vehicle so far in the distance could be down on top of them so fast when
crossing the road!

Now spinning the teachers and cross-walk guards with a 6 inch fly-by is also
fun. A bit more skilled than just running the little critters down.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but giving this guy undue crap for a
legitamate question is uncalled for. The limiter is nothing more than
government control, once you break it down. I don't hesitate to agree we
don't need to be driving 100+, but If I pay for a big V8, I want power and
speed at my disposal, what I decide to do with it is up to me, not you or
the dealer or the government. My freind, a fireman, bought a new 99 Ram 360
from a dealer, they claimed first to not be able to remove the limit, a lie,
then they werent allowed by chrysler, a lie, then they blamed the government
for not being able to remove the limit. This guy often follows highway
patrolmen en-route to save someones life at over 100 mph on open four lane
divided highways, he has a legitatmate excuse. He got the job done, no
thanks to the dealer. He then, all but made the weasel-ly dealership owner
cry and pee his pants as he gave him the ass ripping of a lifetime, not over
refusing to do the job so much as letting his people lie to a customer that
just spent $27,000 at the dealership. The dealer offered to buy it back,
when he was finished.

I had a 76 Chevy Impala Intercepter, 454 big block, it would due 150 on a
bad day. I only did that once, but it was my choice to make!

Thanks for hearing my opinion.

Do you come in here yelling about how you blasted this off the road, or how
bad you killed the guy in the Mustain??
Nope...
You dont come in here and ask how you can get better handling on the street
at 150+ so you can blast across town and not worry about wrapping around a
tree....
You dont claim to blast into residential areas and not give a damn about
life, yours or anyone else's...and you dont tell us that its none of our
fucking biz if you do and to butt out..

Look...we ALL have been known from time to time to get a little heavy
footed...but there is a difference between your average Joe that gets a V-8
and thinks that he can show the world at any time and place that hes the
hottest thing in town. There are plenty of places where if you are not
running 100+ your getting passed on the interstate here, just as in
California...and thats not smart, but it happens. Does that make us all
freaks? Nope...just our way of telling the government that Germany had a
good idea..LOL
Does the AVERAGE driver know how to handle a car at 55, much less at 100???
FUCK NO.
Most are color blind and cant see red lights, or a Teal Green Firebird that
had right of way about 15 seconds prior to them pulling out in a slow moving
vehicle in a 55MPH zone...most can not hear a horn, or know what that stalk
on the left side of the steering wheel is for...whats a turn signal? Most do
not give right of way to emergency vehicles, nor give full respect and right
of way to a funeral procession...
Most think an 82 Yugo can take a flat curve at 90....or that a Honda is a
serious racing machine and can pass you on the uphill stretch and not get
splattered by that Freightliner topping the hill only a few hundred yards
ahead...
Most seem to think that only one person is on the road, and that one person
is them...that the yellow line means that its time to hug that left turn on
the far left white line...

Most also have never had their ass kicked by a 48 Ford before..LOL

No...I believe that there is a time, and a place for that behavior...but
Murphy's law will place either a deer, a dog, or a fallen tree in the path
of you as you least expect it...
The last time I hit 140+ on my bike it happened to be the largest fucking
rabbit I had ever seen, all 1 millisecond of it, and that was it for me on
the bikes....no more speeding at all on them...

Its a catch 22...dammed if you do, and dammed if you dont....
