The previous post concerning radio noise reminded me of this question.
I have an '85 with the Bose amplified speakers which are out of comission on
the LH side, front and back.
The original radio has been replaced with a Sony CD/radio and I know that it
is indeed the speakers now that are at fault. They are prone to corrosion,
especially in the door environment that the front speaker is in.
Question is has anyone a suggestion or success at replacement speakers
all the way around that do not require there own amplifiers(unlike the Bose,
each has its own amp).
Thanks, Bruce

I bought some Pioneer speakers last year that work great. I think
they're 4" in the doors (don't quote me on that) and 6x9 in the rear.
For the rear I removed the entire speaker and box that it mounted in,
and just bolted on the 6x9. On the front, it's difficult to remove
the box that the amp is in, so I just left those in the door, mounted
the new speaker to them, and bypassed the amp. I used nearly all the
original wiring.

Thanks for the tip,
I know what you mean about the front amplifier box as I have been there
before, calls out for removing the window mechanism. This is the info. I was
looking for.

I did the exact thing also, those amp boxes in the front would be hell to get
out, just mounted a pioneer model TSG1040 coax speaker in place of the junk bose
and by passed the amp.6x9 in the rear.Get a wiring diagram from the factory
manual because it is not straight forward wiring in the
rear...............Gary85auto>Subject: Re: '85 Bose speakers sub?

Thanks again,
Appreciate the part number on the speakers. Was the TSG1040 used at the
doors and 6x9's in the rear? Do you have the Pioneer PN that you used for
the rears?
Wiring is no problem. I have a shop manual and have been into the wiring
diagrams in it several times.
I will definately be tackling this project soon,
Bruce

Those are the front speakers, the rears will take most any 6x9.Dont know if that
part number is current since I did that 3 yrs ago.I put a pioneer cd deh1000 in
place of the bose cassette.I cant figure why some fool spent 800.00 for that
bose option back in 1985..........................Gary>Subject: Re: '85 Bose

I agree about the Bose system. Personally, I think the same thing about the
4+3 tranny in the 85's as well. The 4+3 and the Bose go hand in hand to the
dump.
Thanks, Bruce
