Hi again.

I was perusing the Chevrolet site tonight and building myself a virtual 2001
Vette. I came across the following option:

CONTINUOUSLY VARIABLE ELECTRONIC REAL TIME DAMPING - inc: Delphi adjustable
ride control system (N/ A w/ Z51 Performance Pkg)
Code: F45

I can't seem to find any technical information about exactly what this is.
Can anyone out there describe to me what it is? (Or at least tell me where
I can read about it?) Also, I'd be interested in people's opinions on
whether it's worth the bucks. It's $1695.

Thanks!

Gnome

If you have this, you have a little knob on your console that allows you to
adjust the suspension to three settings. I forget the exact settings, but
they're things like touring and sport.

Is it worth it is subject. If you read the forum, www.corvetteforum.com,
you'll find many people swear by it, others say they can't feel the
difference and others say go with the Z51 suspension. The only way for you
to decide is probably to drive them.

I went with the Z51 and am quite happy with the choice. Firm, excellent
handling, but not harsh.

I have F45 on my '98 (bought used). If you find a relatively long &
consistent stretch of bumpy road, you can feel a difference in the 3
settings, but the system goes beyond simple stiffness of the ride, as I
understand it. I believe that it uses lateral acceleration, as well as
"bumpiness" to set the firmness of each individual shock absorber. I seem
to recall reading that it updates the settings 60 times per second(?)

All things considered, I don't think I'd spend the $1695 on it if I were
buying new. I'm also concerned about the replacement cost of the shock
absorbers when they wear out. I've heard that Bilstein rebuilds them for
about $100 each, but don't know for sure.

A $1695 switch! Forget this option and get the Z51 suspension.
