Thanx for straightening that out. Here all this time I thought the
Camaro was a $28,000 Corvette.

BTW, where can I find this $40,000 Corvette? Last I saw they were close
to $50,000 brand new.

As for the Ferrari, you can get a late 70's 308 for about $25,000
complete with outrageous maintenance and insurance costs and almost as
fast as a GT Mustang. With the exception of the ultra-limited $500,000
F50, Ferrari is yet to put a car on the street that has more power than
the 1969 L88 Vette with open chambers heads. And Chevrolet sells Vettes
to anyone with the money. Unless you drive a Ferrari F1 car, are
related to the Founder, or sleep with someone on the Board of Directors,
good luck buying a new Ferrari super car.

The first time the L88 motor was raced at Le Mans, the 1967 Corvette was
running circles around everything in the GT class (and several in the
all out prototype class) including the Ferraris and Cobras. Were it not
for a drive shaft failure, the 1967 L88 would have walked away with
virtually every GT record by a long shot.

But to each his own. Opinions are like ass holes, everybody's got one
and some stink worse than others. In this case, you probably win the
size issue as well.

What's wrong with a Camaro? I consider that a compliment. Nothing like V8
American iron. (Or aluminum and fiberglass in our case.)

Actually, the range is from $38,900 (MSRP) for a base model hardtop, to
$53,999 (MSRP for a fully loaded convertible with the magnesium wheels and
millennium yellow (or mag red) paint and all the toys). That's not
including discounts - I've heard of people getting $3000-$4000 off MSRP for
a hardtop, so I imagine you can pick up a Vette for $35k.

Funny you should say that. I like the sound of my buddy's 99 Camaro SS, and
the svelte looks as well. If I couldn't afford the Vette, I would have
gotten the Camaro. For 99 they are only about 40 horsepower apart. Nice
cars, both. \

But I do have to admit to being partial to my 99 Vette convertible. I can't
quite put my finger on it, but it brings out that high school kind of pride.
I find myself parking far away from cars to avoid door dings, and actually
polishing wheels again.

Not to mention the paranoia you would feel every time you had to check into

JB:

I think "the man" is probably about 13 years old and trolling for a rise
from the group.... But *you* got one from me:

Mass produced - a hundred + cars a day isn't exactly "mass produced." As
for the "plastimobiles" comment = well, I think it's great if you've got a
hundred K+ to blow on a Porsche (IF you really have one) - power to ya':
does the fact that I can get 2.x Corvettes for what you (theoretically) paid
for the "Porsch-uh" give you any pause for thought? I've been a Porsch-uh
owner, and I'll take the 'vette anyday; it's a hell of lot less trouble.
(Note that I didn't say it's a Better Car - just that it's a lot less
TROUBLE!)

As far as "commonplace" is concerned, there's a whole raft of gold-chained
guys here in San Diego driving Porsches who don't know how to pronounce it,
let alone drive one! Talk about commonplace - they are f*ing everywhere:

"Whaddaya drive?"
"I am a _cool_ guy - I gotta Porsssh. See my gold chains and Rolex? See my
Porssh? I am _real_ cool. I go to disco. Wanna dance?"

JB - you modified the car and got it clear up to 355hp - wow! How much are
you in for now?

Cheers, guy, but don't be so quick to put other folks down! From
experience, I'll take the 'vette any day.

AQX,

Just doing a bit of fact checking here.

Stock Ferrari 550 Maranello 1/4mile: 12.5-12.6 115-117MPH

I am on my 2nd C5 (A 99 pewter MTI 383 Stroker) and love it, but I will be
buying a 360 Modena or 550 Maranello in December. I have always dreamed
of a ferrari, and I look forward to driving mine to work every day!

Seriously, you can't really compare the practicality of a $250,000 car.
There is absolutely no way to justify $250k for a daily driver. $250k
should keep someone in honda accords for 20years ;)

If you want practical...buy a mini-van or honda accord (ick).

: So unless you simply want the "Ferrari fantasy" in

I plan to drive my ferrari to work daily. When its in the shop, i'll drive

356hp.

Ummmm . . .

My Vette makes that kind of power on six cylinders.

Hmmmm . . .

Not flaming - You sure about that number? Sounds low for a modded engine.

12.41@ 112.64 mph.

Hmmmm . . .

Not flaming - This # sounds low, too.

Perhaps you can supply an url to a homepage with a scanned dyno chart and
time slips to examine? And pictures of the car?

I liked your post though. Around here there are butt-loads more 911's
driving around than Vettes. Maybe it's just a left coast thing but it's
true. Porsches are anything but rare, I bet I see 3 times more Boxsters
than C5's. I jump out rashly often without thinking and do regret that
post. I just wish I knew were the guy and his whopping, C5 stock, 355hp
were and teach him a good lesson.

Im sure about the numbers Dale. Not sure if you knew this or not, but things
have changed a bit since 76' man. Cars don't have 500 hp out of the factory
anymore. Hmm.. where to start, see, back in the seventy's we had this thing
called the gas shortage, and manufacturers were forced to produce cars
that get better gas mileage.. apparently all the 600,000 cfm carbs were
eating enough gas every day to light up N.Y.N.Y for ten weeks. Since then
things
have not changed much, only now instead of eating all that gas, and wasting
precious hp resources on spinning tires (some things have NOT changed "C5")
cars were designed to actually USE the power in the engine as opposed to
wasting it.
Of course that number sounds low to you, your car is a gas eating HOG with
more tire spin than a top fueler! You can't just go bolt on a new Holley
and add some headers and "whalla" get 200 extra horses on these cars
man. Jesus, I spent a bloody FORTUNE to get those numbers! Have a little
respect!

Steve,
If you will re-read my original post, you will clearly see that I
was not
attacking anyone or anything. You on the other hand managed to attack
1. Guys who drive Porsches 2. Guys who drive Porsches in San D. 3. Guys
who wear gold chains 4. Guys who wear a Rolex 5. Guys who wear gold
chains AND a Rolex 6. Guys who like disco music 7. Guys who can't
pronounce Porsche 8. Guys in SanDiego who wear a gold chain and
a Rolex at a disco who got there via a Porsche but can't pronounce the
manufacturer's name.
Besides that, I always thought it was the Vette crowd that wears gold
chains and Rolex's... funny enough, my next door neighbor drives
a C5, and come to think of it... he wears a gold chain, AND a Rolex!
AND, to compound my rant, I drive a Porsche and I don't have gold
chain, or a Rolex... Hmm.. kind of makes me wonder. Really though,
no troll intended, I was simply giving my HO on the state of affairs
with the current Corvette, nothing more. As for the rest of your post,
hehe.. Pausing.........
.........Thinking.......
Hmm, yep you can get two Corvettes for the price of one 911. Must be
a reason eh? You bet your arse there is a GOOD reason for that!
I'm in for around 115 grand if you include all the extra goodies and
mod's to my car. It is truly a one of a kind, and it attracts people like
moths to a bright light. Just a quick example.. My lady and I came out
of the movies tonight and I noticed a crowd of five guys walking around
my bucket... I thought for sure something was wrong, but as it turns out
they were simply standing there talking shop and admiring the beauty
of such a rare and pampered ride. We stood and talked for a few,
it was nice to chat with fellow racing enthusiasts about the new 911.
One of the guys was a Vette owner, he unlike yourself seemed very
cool, and was genuinely interested in how one goes about modifying
the new 911. I told him all I have learned over the last year.
Maybe one day you too will be able to afford a true exotic so you can
know the pleasures of owning and driving a rare sports car. Let
me know if you do and I can tell you who to call. For the record,
the guy who modified my car offers a turbo package that yields over
five hundred hp resulting in ten second quarter miles, but it was
a little out of my budget at the time, and besides I intend to buy the twin
turbo
in 2001. How many Corvette's can you buy for one Porsche Twin Turbo?
How about four! HAHAHAHAHAHAH~!!!!! You must still be living in
practical land bud, cause I don't really give a rats arse how many
American made plastic pieces of HORSE SHIT you can get for
eighty grand, It's still HORSE SHIT!

Fini.

Wow, had to post that twice eh'?

Doesn't matter, 911T or 911C, whatever. You can always rest easy knowing
that MY C5 will kick your car's ass. All of our C5s had the HP that your
modified Beatle has right now FROM THE FACTORY? Obviously you hang out here
because you are threatened by the fact that you paid too much money for a
lesser performing vehicle and need to prove something, otherwise you would
be over in the Porsche group, where I might mention mostly gentlemen hang
out, nothing like you. In fact, I am quite certain that most Porsche owners
would be emabarrased that an idiot like yourself drives the same car they
do. I certainly don't mean to insult Porsches, but you sure make them look
bad. Better do some more flow work on those heads, 355hp is not very
impressive. Good luck.

No offence was taken. Driving the Beatle tends to set things back into
perspective after smoking the roads in the Vette. It keeps me humbled.
Especially when you look at the simplicity of it's air cooled engine in
contrast to the technologically advanced and computer driven Corvette
engine.

And here is what he was saying in alt.autos.porsche last month:

"Just FYI, the 99' C5 will literally blow the paint off a stock 993, and
damn near put a 996 to shame on the highway, IF thats important to you.
I have both a 99' C5 and a 99' 996, and I am constantly amazed by how
much performance I get for the money with the Vette. As far as the 996
is concerned, I am constantly amazed by how much money I pour into the
car on a monthly basis for basically the same performance as the Vette.
It's all relative to how much money you can spend without feeling like
Adolph Hitler just bent you over and, well you get the picture."

If you can afford it and are fulfilling a dream, fine!
Those were my reasons too. :-)

Because of the oddly uncomfortable seats of both
the 550 and the 360, I recommend that you sit
in the seat of the car before you order one. Lots of
people have rushed to order a 360 because of its
dreamy looks, only to find that the immovable side
bolsters on the seatback are too constrictive.

I also think you would be better off considering the
Ferrari as a weekend car rather than daily-driver,
primarily because of the risk of damage to it on the
road and in parking lots. Your C5 has a hit-resistant
nose and butt, but the Ferraris do not. Your C5 has
[optional] protective side moldings, but the Ferraris
don't [nor any aesthetic place for them]. As a veteran
of the experience, I can assure you that there is
nothing which will piss you off more than walking
up to your beautiful Ferrari and finding that some
&*()@# has opened a door into it!

Good luck and enjoy!

Now that is one of the BEST ideas I've heard of in a LONG TIME!

A battle between the worlds number ONE crap handler, his lordship PP
CAAcaa, and the upstart wannabe master, Josh Butler.

One the owner of an unbeatable, 202 MPH (street verified) highly
modified purple C-5 (with custom purple wires) and the other the owner
of a highly modified, 500 HP 996 Porch. Each sure in the knowledge that
HIS car is faster, more beautiful and drooled over by all who see it.
Each knowing that beautiful women the world over WET their pants at his
mere mention of his personal vehicle

The war of the giants!

Who will be victorious? Who will drive away the winner? Who will slink
away in SHAME?

Stay tuned for more from the WAR OF THE GIANTS!

This just HAS to be a troll. I've owned two of the REAL 911s, when they
were air-cooled, and I've never met another Porsche driver who would call
other people's vehicles "Plastimobiles". It also seems odd to come to a
"corvette" bulletin board and act condescending toward owners of Corvettes.
If you really have a need to be accepted as the superior wage earner, and
exotic vehicle owner that you apparently are, wouldn't the Porsche bulletin
boards be a better place to do that?

Oh, I had a Rolex when I owned my Porsches, and I still have the exact same
watch now that I own a 99 C5 Corvette convertible. Never did care for gold
chains. But I do love precision engineering. Yep on Rolex. Yep on
Porsche. Yep on Corvette.

The C5 Corvette is a world class supercar for about 1/2 the price of the
Porsche, NSX, Viper GTS, and about a 1/3rd of the Ferrari. That does not
mean that the other fine sport cars are worth twice to three times as much.
It is rather more complicated than that. Corvettes are intended to be
"affordable" supercars. Porsche has attempted to build an "affordable"
supercar as well, in the Boxster. Next year's model, with the increased
horsepower will fit the bill if they can keep the Price down.

For my money, I'll take either my Corvette, or a 1989 Porsche 911 air cooled
with the G-50 trans, a full whale tale, in red. This time, I chose the
Vette. And so far I'm grinning too widely to have time to make fun of
anyone else's ride.

Not to get in the way of a fist-fight, but speaking of 66 Beatles, does
anyone remember the Karmanghia? I had a 69 Kharmanghia (spelling) that was
such a fun car that it eventually led to me buying Porsches. I remember
people saying that my "squashed Volkswagon" was a "poor man's Porsche" in
the late 60s. Seems the need to be condescending hasn't gone away over the
years. I can't imagine why not. We are incredibly lucky people to own
either Volkswagons, Porsches, Camaros, or Corvettes (or any other brand
mentioned in these posts). Just having the freedom of wheels, particularly
sport wheels it pretty neat (yes, I'm well old enough to use the term
"neat".)

At 49, I must be one of the "older guys". I LOVE the SOUND of the American
push-rod V-8, and I'm sure that's because it is what I owned in the late 60s
when horsepower and gasoline were dirt cheap, and catalytic converters did
not yet exist.
I loved my Porsches also, but I can put down the top, turn off the radio,
and entertain myself just LISTENING to the C5 work. For the first time in a
long time, I'm even considering after market exhaust to emphasize the sound.
That's hard to explain to the owners of fine six cylinder sport cars, like
Porsches, NSX, BMW M3, etc.

And after driving the Viper, I realized that the C5 had moved toward
Europe's best in the elusive category called "balance" which Porsche,
Jaguar, and NSX drivers are very familiar with. Put a push-rod sound of
my youth together with the balance of a European grand touring sport car,
and, well............... I own one.

Well, I reiterate: Drop by your local Ferrari dealer
and testdrive [or at least sit in] a new 550 or 360.
Compare the features. You will come away from
the experience convinced that you have a better
machine in your C5 for 1/5 the net price of a 550.

While you're at it, match the pewter color and
finish of your C5 against Ferrari's comparable
grigio. You'll win that elegance contest too.

I'm not saying this just to kick Ferraris around,
but rather to emphasize just how good a machine
the C5 really is, and what a bargain it also is at
the price. If Ferrari, Porsche, et al. want to keep
selling cars at 2-5 times the C5 price to anyone
but hood-emblem freaks, they're going to have to
try a lot harder now that C5's around.

In the 80s when you saw a Ferrari driving
around, you usually envied the driver the
experience and the _Miami Vice_ glamor.
Today you tend to think, "Poor guy, he's
stuck in an unsellable, high-$-maintenance,
astroinsurance, uncomfortable relic of
old-generation technology."

Geeez Josh, jbutthead, you're like superball...the harder you get knocked
down, the higher you bounce up. Go back to the porcha NG and tell them how
much better your Vette is than their Porches... Man you sure are a work of
art for a lowly fucking troll!-

Now Josh. Advertisements like that belong in the proper NG. If you are
going to advertise for another man or group of men, you really should do
it in a NG where people are actually interested. I think you'll get
many more replies in some other NG.

The only creamy action you'll find here are people who think your Porch
sucks. Now that you've announced that YOU SUCK as well, we may have to
revise that opinion of you.

While I have never driven a Ferrari, I would love to own one, I have riden in
Ferrari's and my Corvette seems to have as much torque as the Ferrari and seems
to rev as fast as the Ferrari. The Ferrari doesn't have any storage room,
expecially when compared to the storage are in my coupe. I went with a friend
to have the oil changed in his Ferrari by the dealer. When we got back to his
house his wife asked how much the oil change was, he told her it was $200.00,
she said that wasn't bad. (WOW I hope I can get the oil changed in my C5 for
considerably less that that). I have also been in a twin turbo 911 and like
the torque of the Ferrari and Vette much better.

If a Corvette is such a piece of horse shit, then why is it that it
holds its resale value so much better than your over priced Wunder car?
I've seen 928's selling for less than $10,000 that originally went for
$70,000 whereas my '69 350/350 is worth close to 4 times its sticker
price, and still appreciating. I mean, how did it feel to lose $20,000
the moment you drove your car off the lot?

The reason the Porsche costs so much more is due, primarily, to limited
production numbers. I have several friends that have owned and driven
911/912, 914, 924, 928, 944, 968, Boxster, etc. and most of them say
that they won't go back. The maintenance headaches, costs, insurance,
reliability problems, etc. aren't worth it. Besides, getting blown away
by a GT Mustang while you're driving a 944 is kinda embarrassing, don't
you think?

As a last note, "Car and Driver" has put the Corvette on its top 10 list
of ALL CARS IN THE WORLD for several years running. Go ahead and tell
me you know more about cars than the engineers turned editors who write
for the magazine.

This is just what we would expect from a pathetic brainless trolling
lie-mongering little twerp whose perpetually soiled diapers vie for
recognition as his most noteworthy accomplishment, narrowly stinking out
his irresponsible disdain for the truth and hilarious bumbling
ineptitude. Unfortunately, jbuttplug, your skills as a troll are so

Hey dumb shit, "Hot Rod" magazine spent $1998 in a 1993 article and got
a Dodge Dart into the 12's. I have a friend whose 1967 Firebird ($700
purchase) runs 12.2 in the 1/4 on pump gas and slicks. Some of us are
smart/creative enough to find other ways.

JUST A FEW PROBLEMS, RAY:
State of jurisdiction vs your residence location, distance to court and most
important, age of josh butliker and the probability that he is judgement
proof (if you win he has nothing you can collect) plus the problem of
proving damages/losses in defamation of character and slander litigation is
very difficult.
Most trolls are under legal age and/or can't rub two nickels together!
I still think we ought to forward every post that results from a troll's
post to their email address. That way they will get the satisfaction if
seeing all the posts their troll message generated which is their obvious
need.
This is especially effective when the troll is as dumb as josh and includes
his legit email address in the post.

Check the header in his e-mail. All his troll posts seem have
originated from 24.4.126.242 or 24.4.126.246. Anybody could forge his
name and e-mail address, but if his e-mail comes from or is routed
through any 24.4.126.* IP address, it is most likely him. I notice
certain linguistic similarities between the "troll" and the "real" Josh.
I say they are one and the same.

There was a depraved troll message posted to the Ford group yesterday by
a "joshbutler". If he has taken any action, it is only to desist
