Planning to order a 99 convertible in a week or so.. Anyone know how to
remove the skip shift function so it will shift normally?

I have not been able to see many. Will look further this week in Atlantic
City as I heard the largest Vette dealer in North America is there.. Found a
dealer with 3 silver ones and took one for a ride.. Only autos there.. no 6
speeds... Would like to see the colors on a car.. Leaning toward one of the
blues..

My last Vette was an 84-z51 and a 77 prior to that. Have a 944t now that
lost an oil pump last night. Good 'ole AAA

Anyone have a 99 with the adjustable handling package?

Thanks

Roy K.

You can get a plug from Eckler's or Mid America to bypass the skip
shift. Personally, I have not found it to be a problem. If you don't
see a Navy blue Vette and are interested in that color, see if they have
a Camaro with it.

Pics of my navy blue are here: http://www.posthuman.com/corvette/

I did the CAGS defeat on mine last night after helping a
fellow C5 Registry member install a lift at his place. See
http://www.opms.com/corvette/atlantac5events/liftparty/
for some pics and info on that. To install it you really
need a good way to get under the car; I don't know if I
could of done it by just crawling underneath- I've heard
you can drive one side of it up over a curb to help get
under it if you can't find a lift or pit to use. You want
to get the driver side raised. On that side of the transmission
you can easily see a solenoid with a connector coming out.
You disconnect that, and plug the thing from Ecklers into
it (the connector wire, not the transmission). And just
leave it hanging, it doesn't connect back into the tranny.
The Ecklers part came with a zip tie to keep it from dangling.

Is this the same process for a 95 LT1? I want to do the same thing....and why
is it that sometimes the tranny seems to allow you to shift from 1st to 2nd
with no problem, but other times it wants you to shift into 4th from 1st??
Thanks....

I'm not sure of the exact numbers, but my best guess is that 2'nd and 3'rd
will be locked out under the following conditions (while driving in 1'st):
You are in a certain RPM range. No guess on this but I think it matches
to about 15 - 19 mph
Your coolant temp is > 180 degrees
Your are < 21% throttle

Again, I'm not sure of the exact numbers, but I think it's in the owner's manual.

Find a (smart) kid (or your son) and let him crawl underneath the car. My
son did it for me and he's 10.
It will cost you one MC drive but it saves you a lot of trouble.

It is designed to skip to 4th when you're not into it.. Get a little heavy
on the throtle in first, and second is there... This is NOT from
experience... yet.. I have a T-56 6 speed in a 71 Camaro (with 500 hp and
4.10's) from a 94 Trans AM but skip-shift is defeated...

I'm sure it depends on driving habits how often 2nd is there.. I have a
feeling I will see 2nd often.. Depends on how much throttle is required..
Anyone have any input on this??

I drove a 99 6 speed today..
I asked the salesman about skip-shift as soon as we got in the car... He
told me there was no indicator.. I brought it up to about 2500 rpm in first
and 2nd was there. I looked at the dash the next time and there IS an
indicator! It's in the tack.. it lights up: "1 to 4" in a light display..
It goes out just over 2k rpm.. Don't think it will be much of a problem. If
I find myself shifting at under 2k when in traffic - I may bypass it....

This salesman knew about vettes.. Kenbeck Chevrolet, largest Vette dealer in
the world.. They had about 40 99's there! Wow... Got to see most of the
colors except the Navy blue.. the one I want... Sh*t. Will Order it tomorrow
anyway.. Don't like the mew magnetic red much. Light blue looked pretty goo
and so did the pewter. Pewter is one of the top 3 colors with red and black.
They are selling hardtops @ 4000.00 BELOW MSRP! I was quoted 1500 off a
Conv... He said he will never have a 6 spd conv in stock, they sell before
delivery. - It's still over 49K ALL options except the dampening and door
guards.. Blue with Oak seats and top.

The ONLY think I'm hesitant on now is whether to get the z-51 option or
not... Drove both although not the same day and not on the same roads...
Could not really feel difference in ride without more driving... The z-51
Sure handles awesome.. Took a few highway ramps today...

Anyone have any experience with the standard vs. z51 package? I would like
flatter cornering if the ride suffers only very slightly.. Will drive 60
highway miles daily. Have no plans to compete.. at the track anyway... but
ya never know...

Thanks!

Hey Roy-

NO flame intended here of course, but I'm guessing you
meant to say KERBECK Chevrolet, in Atlantic City NJ,
right? Just so everyone knows the proper name of the
worlds largest Corvette dealer....no biggy though- I
think Ken Beck is Jeff Beck's brother maybe....<g>

Did you go to Paramus Auto Mall in Paramus, NJ
(formerly Malcom Konner)?

You can get the details on how to properly disconnect the cags and its light
by a writeup I did at http://teamzr1.com/cagremv.html

Depending on the model C4 year, what speed and how much percent of g-pedal is
used will dictate if cags comes on or not.
Do not shift into 2nd under 17 MPH or less then 30 percent of g-pedal
