OK - thanks everyone - that helps a lot. I knew it looked a little
different - maybe a little stubbier from the ground to the rooftop, but
I couldn't quite put my finger on the differences, never having seen a
HT up close and personal.
Actually, I kinda like 'em.

The hardtop is a convertible with a top glued on. The coupe is really
a Targa (removable panel). The hardtop was "supposed" to be a lot
cheaper and very "power" oriented. It was referred to by a lot of
folks as the "Billy Bob". However, GM in its marketing winsdom,
heaped on the options. Hence, not a lot of difference in price.
Zw
No targa top - no hatch (has a trunk) - same shape as a convertible.

It's not quite like the notchback of 68-77, but not like the fastback lines
from 63-67 and 78-present coupe
Now that I think about it, it's shaped a lot like the auxiliary hardtop that
you often see on the convertibles during the colder months.

In addition to the body, the hardtop only comes with the Z19 handling
package (the Z51 with a different rear spring), only the 6-speed, fixed mast
antenna.
Available options are 6-way power driver's seat, AM/FM cassette with Bose
speakers, AM/FM CD with Bose speakers, 12 disk CD remote changer, Body side
moldings, at first not but now I think also the active handling. Not
available are dual-zone ac, luggage shade and parcel net, Memory package, 6
way passenger seat, fog lamps, F45 real time damping, Twilight Sentinel,
HUD, and the power telescoping steering column.
You might check out the following at the local library.

Boo! No automatic with performance axle!
Terry
They more or less intended this car for autocross style competition not
straight line, so no auto. I do believe in the 2000 model they are going to
offer HUD and the dual zone air, plus something I forget now. The auto may
be coming offered then also, but it is just a rumor not.
