If anybody attempted to upgrade the stereo in their C5 I would greatly
appreciate any info on how they did it.
Thanks in advance.

The Bose system is great for AM and nothing else. GM blew it when
they chose this system. Everyone in the audio community knows that
Bose sucks. This just proves the marketing genius of Dr. Bose to
schlep crap for decades.
Anyone find a good size and location for a tube in a C5 convertible?

Dump the head unit. The AC/DELCO head unit has speaker level outputs,
instead of nice 3V pre-outs. If you are going to spend the $$$ on high end
speakers, spend $300-400 and get a new head unit.

the bose/delco head unit does not have front speaker level outputs.

You won't have to tear up the dash. The stock head unit pops right out,
and there are 1.5 din (exact size) head units by Pioneer that are an
exact fit.

If you sell them, why don't you look in the box and check the instructions?
Matter of fact - it's probably in the back of the Pioneer car audio
catalog... I had audio shops for 12 years but no more... In most cases with
the 1.5 din units; you will remove the brackets from the existing delco and
the pioneer deck has mounting provisions for them and other vehicle brands.
Just switch the brackets and it bolts in..
Pioneer is not the only source for these units..
Make sure you get harness adapters so you can use the existing wiring
without cutting harnesses. The deck can be wired on a workbench and "poped
in" in a short time.
The dash is no problem, it's the easy part... wait 'till you get into
removing the door speakers and amps and install new ones... That's the tough
part.
Maybe the speaker assemblies are easier to get to in a C5 as I have not
looked closely but in a C4 - It's a bitch..The inner aluminum door skin is
riveted in place after the speaker boxes are installed. Either you remove
the skin (I never did) or you open up the existing speaker enclosure to
install a larger speaker. I used to leave the box in there and cut it open
with a hole saw after removing the speaker/amp assembly. I think the C5
speakers a larger than the 3.5's in a C4 bit they are still not 6.5's. If
you do this - you should use 6.5's
In my C4 I used a din radio and a 1/2 din eq underneath it. It fit great. I
used a dash kit and a little Mgiver. had 600 watts RMS using 3 amps
Lanzar/Pyle. I built 10" subs flush into the compartment doors behind the
seats and the amps were below the speakers (no abs).. 6x9 co-ax in the rear,
6.5"s in the doors, and 4x6 in the dash. Crossovers, faders, the works..
Sounded awesome and the 84 w/z51 needed volume to drown the rattles anyway.
It ate an alternator every ~2 years. I owned the car for 5 years before I
did it and sold it 5 years later.
Good Luck! -

>Will the stock cd changer work with a new 1.5 DIN pioneer head unit in the
C5?
It may not unless you get a special adapter. Most automakers have the
changers and/or head units use a different cable just to make it a "dealer
item." A good audio shop will know the answer and will be able to get the
correct cable for you if it's available.

speaker

Sizes?? = too small
Easy is not part of the description... See my other post in this thread.
