This newsgroup is dedicated solely to the preservation of accurate
historical information concerning the Chevrolet Chevelle. It is
carefully moderated to that end.

The Chevrolet Chevelle automobile was built by General Motors from
model years 1964 through 1977. "Power Years" Chevelles are those built
from 1964 through 1972. The continuing interest in this marque and
its siblings, the El Camino, GMC Sprint and Canadian Beaumont, is
sustained by its emphasis on high performance and sleek design.

Postings to this newsgroup are welcome in areas of Chevelle historical
lore and engine, transmission, body, interior, chassis and electrical
issues. The newsgroup will aid in the definition of identification
numbers of Chevelle parts, paint codes, casting numbers, trim tags and
Protect-O-Plates.

This newsgroup consolidates existing discussion which is scattered
among related newsgroups and is a sibling site to related websites and
mailgroups (infra). Until now Chevelle postings were lost among the
unrelated postings at rec.autos.rod-n-custom and
rec.autos.firebird-camaro.

Moderation is done by hand by Chevelle historians. Moderation will
exclude spam, excessive cross-postings, postings which are off-topic,
postings which are calculated to emit more heat than light, postings
which suggest unsafe or historically invalid modifications to
Chevelles and postings which are otherwise grossly historically
inaccurate.

Postings to alt.autos.chevelle are usually modified by the Moderator.
Headers are heavily stylized to increase the probability that Deja
News will find them during searches. Spelling is corrected to make
postings more readable and to make the search engines more responsive.

Chevelle lovers will also enjoy Al McKenzie's superb web site
"chevelles.com"; it receives thousands of visits per day. Its sibling,
"chevelles.net", is a centralized Internet server housing eleven
nonprofit regional US and Canadian Chevelle clubs. The excellent
Chevelle mailing list at http://www.chevelles.com/lists has several
hundred members and has produced thousands of digests. Postings which
are not appropriate for alt.autos.chevelle may be welcome on the two
aforementioned Internet resources or on other automobile
newsgroups.

Chevelle trivia is posted daily at Tom Wilson's Chevelle Trivia (c) at
www.chevellehistory.com and on the front page of Team Chevelle,
www.chevelles.com. The information provided there is documented from
General Motors and Chevrolet Division primary reference sources
whenever possible. A question from Chevelle Power Years history and
lore is presented on a daily basis. The trivia questions are not
publicly archived.

The Legal Community being what it is, please post comments which
reflect only positive experiences, and you may name names. If, in
response to a prior post, you have something bad to say about a
particular product or service, however, please email the comment
privately, or in your post refer to the offending product or service
with a single asterisk. Multiple asterisks lead to folks counting
asterisks and trying to figure out a name matching that number. This
way the good get praised, the bad get criticized and nobody gets sued.
Sadly, such is the price we pay for our litigious society.

Pictures of Chevelles are properly posted to this newsgroup as well as
"alt.binaries.pictures.autos" and "alt.autos.pictures" newsgroups.
Readers are encouraged to check those newsgroups every day; binary
files are often deleted every day or so by some news servers because
of the storage problems inherent in large binary files.

A section has been created here to verify suggested Chevelle reference
book errors.

There have been suggestions of reference book inaccuracies through the
years. Sometimes, however, after I have researched the question, I
have found that there is no documentation to prove that the statement
was inaccurate. When I have verified errors, my book reviews at Team
Chevelle have brought those mistakes to the reader's attention.

On the other hand, I believe that there are enough suggestions of
mistakes to warrant the creation of a section at alt.autos.chevelle.

In fairness to the authors of the criticized reference books, and my
not wanting to create further rumors and myths by allegations that are
themselves false, we will adopt the following procedure. If you have
the feeling that something is inaccurate, post the suggested mistake
to the news group. Once the mistake is verified via the use of
appropriate documentation, we will place the notice into the Chevelle
Archive at Team Chevelle and post it here at alt.autos.chevelle.

Please submit your suggested errors to alt.autos.chevelle, only one
alleged mistake per posted note. You may post as many suspected
errors to the news group as you wish, but only one per posted article.
This will make it easier for the Deja and Team Chevelle search engines
to find the discussions.

Archiving of alt.autos.chevelle is through DejaNews at
www.deja.com. All postings which the moderator posts to the
alt.autos.chevelle newsgroup are necessarily archived forever, or at
least as long as DejaNews exists. DejaNews does not archive binary
files; therefore, pictures posted to our news group will not be
archived.

In searching DejaNews it is important to use their Power Search
function and search the Complete Archive, not just the Standard
Archive. Search by entering into the Forum field the name of our
group, alt.autos.chevelle. It is not necessary to fill in the date
restrictions. Do not be shocked when it tells you that there are
13,000 articles listed in our group; for some unknown reason their
method of counting is bizarre.

IMPORTANT: Caveat and Waiver of Liability:
Readers must independently verify the information provided in this
news group. We assume no responsibility of any kind for any damages
due to information obtained from this news group, whether such
information was contributed by readers or by the Moderator.
