You mean skip shift. Yes, it's easy to disconnect. See the f-body
FAq at wj.net/f-body.

I just installed a b&M shifter in mine. Have friends with hursts. They
are happy with the hursts. I'm happy with the b&m.

I have a 96 SS that came with a Hurst shifter. I think it is well
worth the money. The action is much more positive than the stock
shifter.

The "skip shift" feature can be disconected. Here is the article I
posted previously (with apologies to everybody who has seen it
already):

If you get any 6 speed Camaro, one thing you will want to do is
disable the CAGS- the Computer Aided Gear Selection. This is the
"skip shift" feature on late model Vettes and Camaros w/6speeds that
locks out second and third gear when you are in first gear and at less
than 35% throttle (also dependent on speed and engine temp.). To do
this, get under the car and find the two wire connector in the middle
of the transmission (there are three two-wire connectors to the
transmission, two of them are at the back of the transmission). On
pre-1996 cars just unplug it. 1996 and later cars have OBD-II (On
Board Diagnostics - 2), and merely unplugging it will light the check
engine light. You need to buy a 10 Ohm 10 Watt resistor and simply
plug the wire ends of the resistor into the plug. (Radio Shack Cat.
No. 271-132, 99 cents for 2). Tape off the two pins on the
transmission, tape the resistor to the plug so it doesn't fall out,
and tie wrap the resistor/cable to the transmission.

I have recieved e-mail suggesting a different sized resistor. I have
ran with the 10 Ohm 10 Watt for 3,000 miles with no problem. If you
want to be extra cautious, use a 10 Ohm 15 Watt resistor (I don't have
the Radio Shack part number for that).

FYI- "speed shifting" is shifting without lifting your foot off the
throttle.

I have heard and read alot lately that the B&M shifter is more sturdy than
the Hurst and also has a single piece, machine tooled base which adds to
durability and service life. When I called Motorsports Technologies in
Houston (mail order house) about the Hurst shifter they said they no
longer carry it because of quality issues.

Now I don't know what to get for my '95 Z-28. I had always thought of
Hurst as the best.

I installed a Hurst shifter in my 95 Z-28 about 18 months ago.
I am very satified with it. Although the lever is two piece,
the high grade bolts that connect the pieces can be torqed
very tight. The unit has virtually no play in it, solid as
a rock. Cost me $167 plus tax at an OKC speed shop. Took
about 90 minutes to install.

The Hurst shifter SLP installs in the SS model had to pass a 100,000
cycle durability test for GM. So it should last a long time.

Check out the B&M WWW page for info on their shifter, specifically
http://www.bmracing.com/info/newstuff.html
I was thinking Craftsman should come out with a shifter but B&M must
have been thinking the same thing cause they have a lifetime warranty
too. Does anyone know how much they go for?

I've heard very little about the B&M shifter. Can anyone tell me where I
can get some information (especially specs and picture) on this shifter?
I've considered getting the Hurst, but haven't heard much positive about
it or the benefits of buying one.

I have priced the B&M "Ripper" through several mail order houses and they
are all around $200.

After having looked and "touchy-feely" on both the Hurst and B&M shifters
I think I'm going to try the B&M. It sure feels better out of the box and
seems to be more in mind with what I want. It reminds me of the shifter
in a Porsche.
