Hi
I've got a Z28 (1981) and don't know what tires and what pressure I
should be running on...

Thanx

The pressure is on the sidewall of the tire.

John,

Your car came standard with 225 70R 15 tires. On my 79 Z28, I had BF Goodrich
Radial T/As and I loved them. Your tire pressure will depend on what tire you
ultimately go to. Some of the tires nowadays have up to 44psi depending on
your load.

Good luck with your choice.

I have an 81 Z28 with factory rims and I've always used 235/60r15 tires at
about 30 to 35psi
but the original tires were a smaller size check the Camaro White book for
exact details

Let me see, off the top of my head, I would say a 235/75/R15 size for
the front, and a 255/75/R15 for the rear. I could be wrong but those
are the numbers that ring some bells. Might have been sizes I ran on a
few of my Second Gens. As for brand, if you want a decent tire for not
to much money, check out the B.F. Goodrich Radial T/A, They should be
around $50-$70 per tire for the sizes your car should take. They are
not the best, but they are good for all around traction (even in the
wet), and towing should not be a problem. But why would you want to tow
with a F-body?

Wavy Gravy:
Look at the full subject heading:

That is where it says it at.

Oh. Sorry, didn't see that because this goddamned Microsoft Outlook Express
doesn't always display the entire subject...

I also use 235/60 15's on my 80Z, which are a shorter tire than the stock
225/70 15's. Using a shorter 60 series tire will give you the same effect as
using numericly higher gears. If you have 3.42 gears, your car will behave as
if having something between 3.73 and 4.10 gears.

All 1977-81 Z-28s had 15x7 wheels from factory (either steel or
aluminum). Steel wheels on these cars were body color/center cap
graphics were similar to hood decal format and fender decals and with
each year model.

Factory tire size was P225/70R-15 or possibly GR70-15 on earlier cars
(white letter only).

Tire pressure should be on decal but they are typically listed as
"minimum". I personally like 30-front/28-rear on my 77LT w/WS-6 bars
and factory Z-28 steel wheels. I like BFG Radial TAs in the P225/70R-15
size for price, availability at good prices, performance, etc. and the
gutsey feel they have with KONIs.

If you use this wheel/tire combo on non-Z-28s of second gen, you will
need spacer under lwr control arm bumpers to keep tires from hitting
inner fender skirts on turns. They were there all the way back into the
1st gen also, but only on Z-28s.
