Does anybody know what the physical dimension size for the 4 piston disc
brakes shold be. I'm looking for the rotor size and any info on the
spindles. I bought a set of brakes for a 69 camaro. They are the 4
piston calipers that came on the 67 & 68's. The spindle is supposed to
be the same for these cars but the one I have is was different. Are
there any casting numbers hidden in the dirt that someone can point
out. Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks in Advance
Barry

The replacement disks from Canada don't fit without additional machining.

Assuming these are stock brakes from a 69 Camaro then they are from a JL8 4
wheel disc brake setup. All normal disc brakes in 69 were a single piston
design. The 4 piston JL8 calipers, rotors and spindles used on a 69 don't
fit anything but a 69, they used all kinds of one off bracketry, balancing
valces and master cylinders that weren't used on anything else, corvettes
included. They are totally different than the 67/68 design, although they
look similar. The 69's with JL8 used an 11 3/4" one piece rotors, and a
special heavy duty spindle. The 67/68 disc brakes used something like a 10
1/2" or 11" two piece rotor.

The first question is where the hell did you find a set of 4 piston JL8
brakes just laying around? If you want to get rid of the JL8 calipers and
spindles let me know.

They weren't for a 69 they were supposedly for a 67 or 68. Everything I
looked up for the 67 & 68's said they used the same spindles as the 69's.
Being that ball joint's are the same and so is the steering linkage, I figured
I could use them. They wouldn't be stock but who cares they would work. The
spindles however seem to big from upper to lower ball joints. They have about
4 additonal inches than the drum spindles. The rotors are on the spindles so
it's hard to measure but it is around be 11 3/4" or 12". The calipers look
just like the 4 piston calipers that appear in any of camaro catalogs for the
67 & 68. The rotor is the one piece design. It also has a factory groove in
the middle of the rotor on 3 of the 4 sides. The last one side had one but
it has been cut away. Now I've got figure out what they are and what to do
with them.

Thanks
Barry
