Will 275 60 R15's fit all the way around comfortably without rubbing?
what's the biggest practical size I can put without any wheelwell mod's.
I'm using the typical 2nd gen Z28 mag-style rims 15x7's and I would like
all four tires to be the same size. Any and all thoughts/suggestions are
appreciated....
thanks in advance

Try a 295/50/15. They fit with the correct backspacing of 5." Will need very
minor work one the inner fender wells up front only for cornering spring and
tire flex There is no problem on the outside even with the fender lips.
I have 315/35/17"s going on the back of my '71 - the fender lips are removed
and I'm using 5.5" backspacing with rear disks brakes (takes 3/16" from bs).

Gas mileage and a BBC. Right. About the biggest (tall) you can fit in
front is 245/60-15. This maybe to tall as well. They are about 26" in
diameter. I have 235/60 and 275/50 -15 on my camaro. They are about 25.5"
tall. The fender gap at the top looks about stock. The 275/60's are about
$30 cheaper than 275/50's and will fit a 7" rim.
235/60's are probably all that will fit at all 4 corners.

I have 235/60 SR15 BFG T/A radials (not Comps) on my '71 and I'd agree
that that or a 245 is pushing the limit for untouched wheelwells IF your
goal is to have four alike. I like to be able to rotate tires, too...
Mine tends to be more forgiving of a large tire in front because it has
no A/C (never had) and I put in Moog Z28 springs when I rebuilt the
front end (with 1/2 coil removed to set the ride-height). It is pretty
solid, all around...
One of my Monza NG pals (yes, we have our own group!) is shipping me a
3.73 posi rearend for it this week... The rear in the car now was a
"temporary" solution to carrier-bearing failure in the original rear. It
came out of a mid-'70s automatic "donor" and must be something like 2.93
or so. With the 4-speed in mine it's a real dog off the line...
My challenge now is to figure out what 15" wheel and tire combo to use
when I convert the Monza to 5-lugs and bigger brakes... The size I keep
coming around to is 225/45 ZR15 Comp T/As. The 215/60 R13s on the car
now work out to a 23" diameter, and the 225/45*15 comes out to ~22.97"
diameter (well, the speedo is dead-on at 60 now, so why have to
re-calibrate it?)...
Glad to see more early 2nd gen aactivity in this NG!
Later...

You probably already know this, but Vette Brakes (I think) makes a ton of different
spacers that might come in handy when you start messing w/ new wheels on the
Monza.. :-)
BTW, was that your Camaro I saw going down Idlewood toward Tucker a few days ago?
Looked a lot like it ;)
cheers,
Christer
This thing is a little nose heavy since I put in the big block but not as
bad as you would think. The Z28 springs had 1/2 a coil cut previously and
the nose is noticeably lower. This car did not have A/C either. I put the
battery in the trunk to help also.
Early 2nd gens on the rise I hope!!

I have a couple of sets of wheels that I'll try to use first. I don't
like wheel spacers, so I'm going to try to stay with the same
backspacing I have now... It would be too neat if the wheels I have on
my Camaro will work because they're VERY reminiscent of the factory
Monza cast wheels, yet are 15" x 7" (and the 13" ones on the Monza now
are 7.5" wide...
I have a set (5) of the 15" Rallye wheels with the round center caps
that I think I want to put on the Camaro (again)... I also have a set of
15" x 8.5 American Racing "Slots" that are too wide for both cars...

No. Couldn't have been. My Camaro has had a carb problem for a while
now, and I haven't fixed it yet (or driven it in a couple of months)...
Soon, though! Can't wait for that 3.73 posi to show up, then a new
intake and carb and we'll be on the road again! Basic nuts and bolts
stuff...
Too many projects, no time...
Phil.
