For anyone that would like to document the originality of your Pontiac
Firebird, GTO, or what have you that is Pontiac, below is the address for
the Pontiac Historical Society. If you contact them and provide them with
the year, model and VIN number of your car, there is a good chance they
can find a record of your car on old Pontiac microfilm records. It is my
understanding they can provide you with a copy of the build sheet of the
car, original invoice, what dealer sold the car, how much the car sold
for, etc. For anyone that would like to document and authenticate their
Pontiac, this information is worth its weight in gold and will add greatly
to the value of your car.
I just wish other G.M. divisions had done the same kind of record
keeping that Pontiac did.
Most advertisements I have seen state that P.H.S. does not respond to
phone requests and lists no phone number.
Their address is P.O. Box 884, Sterling Heights, MI 48311-0884. I
think
cost for a report on your car is $25. Send VIN number, copy of build
sheet, etc.,
depending on what you have. They will return a copy of the original
manufacturer
order sheet for your car and lots of other interesting information.

Uhhhh.. It's "Pontiac Historic Services", not Pontiac Historical
Society.(I know, picky-picky!)
What you get is the "dealer billing invoice" which is vastly different
from the build sheet. You also get a copy of an order form so you can
see what each UPS/RPO # signifies. You get a picture (if available) that
was from the ad agency, and various literature regarding your year of
vehicle. It doesn't give you the selling price of the car, but the
"suggested retail price" of the car and the accessories on the car.
There are also news releases, SAE specs, production figures, and a
current Pontiac catalog.
I got mine on both my '70 birds, and I understand that the earlier years
(50's and 60's) may have less info, but the later years may have more
info.
This same service is available to late model Pont. folks free of charge.
If you are going to sell the car as "original" this documentation is
essential. If the car isn't what it is represented to be, you can/will
be held legaly liable. The PHS doc. is proof. Although I have heard of
forgeries.
If you order from PHS be prepared to wait a long time. I think it took 3
months to get mine.

Thanks Stevie, Are you going to send me an email saying you never
heard of this place? Or are you going to simply deny that it exists,
because it's called Pontiac Historic Services!!
Will you just die?
Steve

PHS does indeed provide one with a copy of the BILLING HISTORY for your
car.
This info will show which options/equipment your car came from the factory
with.
Does NOT show dealer add-ons. Some have the actual price showing, while
others have the price blacked out.
PHS does NOT have anything to do with BODY BROADCAST SHEETS which
were used at the factory to enable the line-worker to build that vehicle.
At various
places along the line..trim & final...it was common for the line-worker to
put the
BUILD SHEET in the car somewhere....examples:
(1) Under Rear Seat (upr-or-lwr) stuck between seat springs.
(2) Under carpet or under floor sound deadner.
(3) Under dash-pad or inst.panel.
(4) Behind Door Trim Panels.
(5) Under Front Seat (r-or-l) in springs. Also under actual covers !
(6) Between Gas-Tank and Trunk Pan.
Not all cars will have a BROADCAST SHEET....some were tossed during
the Assy Process or years later during restoration...
Anyhow...if you DO have a BROADCAST SHEET and it's from a '64 GTO
or a '67-'69 FIREBIRD...there is a source for 'de-coding' this sheet.
*** GENERATION-1 FIREBIRD REGISTRY ***
Having researched hundreds of documents from early firebirds, we have been
able
to 'crack' these Factory Codes found on the BROADCAST SHEET. I know,
those
who have their BILLING HISTORY SHEET from PHS will say..."So what".
However, consider this: What we provide is FREE..and, if you are
considering
purchasing a particular FIREBIRD that has the BROADCAST SHEET, you can
determine what it means, how the car was orig.equipped..ON THE SPOT !! No
more waiting several weeks and paying $25.
