I have a 92 E36 that developed a weird power window glitch - the driver side
front window will only go up and down about an inch at a time. It goes all
the way up and down, it's just that I have to press the button 20 times or
so. Has anyone experienced a similar problem? Does anyone have a solution?

Thanks,
Andrzej

Press and hold the button on the first click until the window has gone the
full travel, then try the auto mode (second click again). If the windo
behaves the same way, then hold the second click the full travel, then try
it again.

There is a reset procedure that I don't fully recall, but it has to do with
holding the button on one of the two positions until the window is full up.
What is happening is the window has forgotten where the top is, so it
repeatedly stops. You need to retrain it.

There's a magnet on the drive shaft of the motor that, when it comes
loose, shows the same symptoms as this. Various info in the archives.

Same problem on both sides here on my 92 E36 (318IS). I was told that
I will have to replace both motors.

Thanks to all who replied. I will try all solutions this weekend when I
have some time.
