Hello,

Having problems with my driver´s door power window i´m now searching
for help here.
It´s a 92 320i 4-door german version with power windows in the front
doors.
The problem occured suddenly and stays for several months now.
When using the switch up or down(no matter if pushed "normal" or to
the "go end" position) the window only moves a few centimeters.
That means that i have to push the switch several times to completely
close or open the window. The passenger´s site window runs normally.
The electric motor is controled by an electronic unit by BROSE, which
directs the signals given by the switch to the motor. (or in this case
it doesn´t correctly)
The window lift mechanism isn´t blocked, unclean or weared.
When the window stops after moving a little one can hear a "click"
like a relais.
The following parts were checked by myself and found ok:

- as said the mechanic
- the motor (if you control it directly with some wires, the lifter
works fine)
- wires
- window switch

now the electronic unit is suspected to be faulty.

my questions:

is it possible that the electronic has to be recalibrated by moving
the window/pushing the switch in a special way ?

is it possible that the "comfort relais" (if it exists)
(i hope you know, what i mean
, that´s the german part name) is in relation to that malfunction ?

is a defect of the electronic really the reason ?

excuse my poor english

thanks in advance

best regards

Stefan

I've been having a similar problem with my '94 325is. When
I push the button for the window to go up, it will partially
go up, stop, and then back down about an inch. Sometimes it
goes up less than it backs down.

Apparently there is a sensing device that is looking for
objects sticking out the window (hands, heads, etc.) and
stopping the window before it amputates a body part. It's
probably measuring the resistance the motor is encountering
as it moves the window. The problem is it's too sensitive.

I've had the dealer look at it twice. Both times they've
lubricated the window (I don't know exactly what they
lubricated) and the problem disappeared, for a couple
months. If anyone knows what's causing this and has a
solution, I'd appreciate it as well.

You're lucky IMO.

My dealer straight away *replaced* both motors on my '93 325ic. No solution
to the problem, according to them. And again they're BMW dealers.

I had exactly the same problem on my 1992 BMW 320i: both power windows had
to be replaced, because the electronic failed. I spent about CHF 600 (USD
400).
Regards.
