If you are going to make CDs for your car, use the cheaper CD-R disks. They
should work fine. Save the CD-RWs for archiving and backing up data from
your computer.

Interestingly, on my 95 Miata, I have lots of trouble and need to select the
brand of media carefully; some won't even track. I think this is a
combination of the older technology (? less oversampling?) and the extremely
firm suspension on the Miata which transmits every bump.
I suggest you try one or two of whatever brand of CD-R media you wish to use
before comitting yourself to large quantities.

Well, that is kind of true...except that I found a surprise with my
2000 A6 2.7T with the Bose system. I do not have the changer but the
indash plays cd-rw!! Not all, but it plays Ricoh and, so far, the
cheap FRYS GQ 4X cd-rw's. Also, I have not had any trouble with cd-r
as long as they are finalized.
This has been great. I burn MP3...I mean I burn songs and then erase
them when I am sick of them!

The answer is YES to the CD-R's. I haven't tried CD-RW's yet. I make sure
that all of my CD's in the changer are burned so I don't have to worry about
them, since I can always make new ones. (I have a 2000 A6 2.7T with the
changer.)

Yes, same here

I have, and it didn't play. :-(

Yep, I don't like leaving my precious original CDs in the car.

Same here, in the UK.

Did you try your cd-rw's indash? Mine WORK..at least on good media.
The Ricoh, HP and...FRYS GQ media are fine so far...but even bad media
worked with a few skips. I do not have a changer, however. I would be
interested to know if you even tried the cd-rw indash.

I don't have the indash cd - I have the standard Concert radio with
changer.
I was answering the original question which asked about the changer.

Oh...I have the Bose and the Changer is in ADDITION to the 1 indash
slot.
Cheers!
At .65 a piece for CDR's, what's the big deal!

Actually, Pioneer (or is it Panasonic?) now makes a head unit that will play
MP3s on CD-Rs, and it won't be long at all before there are a bunch of units
that will do this. The Apex DVD player also will play MP3 CD-Rs (of course,
it won't work very well in your car :-)

I think I missed your distinction in your original message, sorry about
that. I agree that most consumer CD/DVD players will not work with CD-RW,
but most do work with CD-R (provided you find the right media).

Your 1994 CD player won't play MP3-encoded music, however. You need a
special player to play MP3s (as opposed to the "raw" music format WAV/AIFF).
MP3 didn't even exist in 1994, so there's no way your CD player would
understand it. You may create audio CDs from MP3 files on your computer,
but the final format you've burned on the CD is *not* MP3 if your 1994 CD
player plays it.
With MP3s, you can store as much as *ten hours* (or more, if you really
crank up the compression) on a single CD. A "normal" audio CD only holds 74
minutes.

As I said a few months ago. My 2000 A6 2.7T with Bose WILL play most
cd-rw media where I converted mp3 to audio format (actually, ezcdc 402
does that on the fly...so you do not even have to convert). MOST cd-rw
of good quality work. I do not have the changer, but they play in
dash. The best cd-rw so far are the FRY's GQ...but you can never be
sure the next 5 pack will be the same as the last. The HP and Ricoh
work, too. The ones that will not stop skipping are the CompUSA
cd-rw's.
