Ive had mine now for 6 months and can say that it is a great car. A little
bit hungry on the fuel though.

And the mine with the sport edition had only for garanty a new clutch
because he has no smooth grip. My super car is 14 months old with 50.000 km
on teller.

if you get the Alfa sales brochure and look at the body kits, this picture is
my car. 17" alloys, lowered suspension and body kit.

Hi,
I am Ronald from the Netherlands. I own a 2.5 V6 for 4 months now (10.200
miles). Allthough I experienced some minor problems that have all been
solved now, I love this car. (read my answer of today to -ALFA 165 - Cover
for fuse pane & other...).
Being a typical Alfa engine, it does need revs to produce power. This makes
the car just quick at low revs, and makes a beast of it from 4500 rpm and
more. I personally disliked the 6- gearbox concept before I owned the car.
But now I don't feel it's wrong. It makes it possible to keep the revs
between 5000 and 7000 while accelerating, and gearchanges are a pleasure to
make. The gearlever is at the right spot (take the optional armrest!), and
the gearbox handles lovely when warm. When cold it is still good enough, but
it's just better when warm. I drove the car with a 1000 kilogram Caravan and
the car filled with my family and lugage. It performed very well, apart from
fuel consumption (between 5 and 6,5 km/litre maintaning a speed of appr. 68
miles/hr).
The engine really has no drawbacks. Fuel consumption is about 7km/l, or 10
to 11 km/litre on long tracks and with good behaviour.
In fact, the car and engine are so good that I have started daydreaming
about adding a compressor to it. In Switserland a company mounts a Vortex
compressor for about $ 5.000,-. They claim 260 Hp and 300 Nm, this makes it
much more interesting than waiting for the four-wheel drive version to wait
for. Although four wheel drive might save the front tyres.
But do think about what tyres you would like to be fitted. In the
Netherlands Alfa uses Firestone (bad), Michelin Energy's (I have doubts),
Pirelli P6000 (disappointing).
I choose Dunlop SP9000, not for the looks, but because it does not tend to
make a car more understeered (the V6 is havier on the front that the
4-cilinder versions), is very good in rain. My experience is that at very
fast cornering steering tends to be somewhat vague, but the car is still
very, very easy to handle. Next time I will certainly mount different tyres
as I like to experiment. Maybe I will then choose a tyre that is especially
good in dry whether cornering. But the Dunlops are good, and make it easy to
learn how to handle the car with minimal chances for damage. Other good
tyres that I had in mind were Pirelli P7000, Dunlop SP8000 (better dry
cornering, steering but less comfort and rain performance). When going for
extreme dry wether handling and forgetting that it will rain sometimes,
japanese tyres are to be considered! Try Toyo, or some other awfull sounding
brandnames

Go for the car, you will not regret it.

Thank you very, very much for detailed description and remarks. Now i'm more
than sure i'm gonna buy this wonderful car. I'm not sport car freak but i think
156 2.5 is ideal family car with sport engine with more than fair price for
those performance.
Thanks again.

Well, it takes all sorts I suppose......
Ther must be some kind of joke in here, any suggestions like maybe a
hug Alfa sticker for the back of the caravan. Maybe Pininfarina
designed a caravan?

Yep...i got one....
I live in Denmark have had mine for about 6 months....bought it when it was
about 1 year old.

The engine is great, handling perfect ( mine is lowered - 30mm i think )

Gearbox....hmm....6 speed manual gear, works much better than the 5-box, but
is a bit noisy ( a slight whine from it ... from all of them i know ), and
now my syncromesh from 4th gear has died......
VERY expensive due to construction of gearbox.....but will be fixed in 2
weeks time..

What the heck...i LOVE that car...drives like a dream.......i drive approx.
40-50K Km. pr. year..the car has done 70.000 km.
The noise when riding is so minimal, when I go 200Km/h there is absolutely
dead-quit in the car.....fantastic...
Got to lower the windows to hear the sound of that VERY good engine....

Got full leather, sound sys, 17" wheels all that....best car around, but be
carefull if You by used....check the gearbox....*SS*

Good luck, mail me on Your further considerations...and when You buy....

Mike
