Hi,
Anyone know if the latest version (150bhp from 147) of the 2.0 engine is
shipping on 156's yet?

Nick

I'm not sure what you mean. I have a 2.0 TS model 156 about 18 months old
and its rated output is 155bhb

The 150bhp 2.0 TS is now sold in Italy on both 156 and 166 (and 147,
of course), and has replaced the 155bhp version.
That's because of the anti-pollution law.

BTW the new engine is a lot slower, not only 'cause it has less power,
but also because of the different distribution of torque and power.

I had a 146ti before this new 156 2.0. The 156 seems alot slower - still
running in at the moement, but first impressions say that it will be slower.
:-(
Mind you, theres alot more positive things from 156 to 146!

Dear Nick,
Yes, the 156 will also have the new 150 bhp engine.

?? Where did you get this info ?? Anyone care to comment on this? Tony?

I'm picking up my 156 2.0 Selespeed next weekend, and it's a 150 engine...
I've testdriven the 156 Selespeed with the 155bhp engine and the dealer
assured me I wouldn't notice the difference...

Damn! Any others out there who have driven both versions of the 156 2.0 TS,
155bhp and 150 bhp?

I test-drove the 155bhp Selespeed, and absolutely fell in love with it's
performance.
I have a Ford Puma now, which is going to be replaced with a 2.0 TS
Selespeed SW
and my dealer had no idea (i.e. did not tell me) about any modifications.
The Puma is
no slouch, either, but the 156 practically blew its doors off. Now, if it's
considerably
slower with the 150bhp engine...

I'm just wondering: the people here claiming that the 150bhp is much slower
than the 155bhp... are they referring to the figures of the 147? 'coz you
can't compare the 147 with the 156 of course...

My dealer claims I won't notice the difference... and I tend to believe him,
'coz my dealer knows that IF the difference would've been so bad, he
could've sold me a 2.5 V6 ...

I spoke to an Alfa tester during the official presentation of the 147,
in november, and he told me he has driven the new 150bhp in a manual
156 on Varano racetrack, in Italy, and he assured me the new engine is
slower and, as also Nick said, has a more pacific behaviour: the
previous one started pushing quiete well from 3000/3500 rpm, the new
one seems to be always the same from 2000 to the rev limiter.

> 'coz you

By the way, the 147 (Selespeed) has the same gear ratio, a quicker
gearbox and it's lighter than the 156, but it's slower of more than a
second from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph)... referring not to what Alfa says,
but on the datas an Italian magazine has collected using the Datron
system.

And, if you see, that's perhaps the same gap that there is bettwen the
old 155bhp and the 1.8 litre-144bhp....

I don't know if a "normal" driver can notice the difference, but it's
for sure that the new engine is slower and has a different behaviour.

But.... you dealer has driven the new 150bhp??

That's what I'm afraid of. I test-drove an 1.8 SW and, immediately after
that,
drove the 2.0 Selespeed SW. The difference was, in my opinion, huge.
If the 2.0 is now as the 1.8 was, I'm afraid I for one will be disappointed.

Some guys in the www.alfisti.net forum have driven the 156 with 150HP
The "dead" feeling below 3000rpm seems to be gone!!!
Therefor no big push in the back from 3500rpm to 6000+
So it doens't look that powerful, but the figures prove differently.
Topspeed seems to be more or less the same as with the 155HP
The Dutch magazine AutoVisie had a test of the 147 1.6 Veloce (120HP)
and made the same remark. No more dead feeling under 3000rpm; Veloce
however was the wrong name for the 120HP!!!

The "dead" feeling under 3000 is gone? Funny but it feels "dead" all the way
up to 7000! I had a problem with the idle settings from new, but my dealer
fixed that, he said they may affect overall performance. Nope - still the
same.
I have a history of 2.0 alfas - from 75, through 155 8v, 16v, 145, 146 and
156. This new 156 is definatley the most disappointing. I wonder if I can
get the 155bhp program put in? What about a Superchip?

Now this got me worried. The new EU emission laws... I plan to get a 156 V6 next
year, will the power drop from 192 bhp to 180 bhp by then? Why is Alfa being so
passive? Why can't they fit a bigger exhaust or more advanced VVT to make up for
the difference. Not only does the new 2.0 TS lose 5 bhp, you also lose 5 lb/ft
of torque!

I hope the internals are the same, and maybe you guys will have to chip your
cars.
