I have a problem starting my Alfa 156 2.0 Twin Spark (1997).

The starting problem is intermittent but frequently when my wife tries
to start it in the morning, it will not start. She will try several
times to start, with no success.

I have checked the relay for the fuel pump and it is OK. (And I also
have changed it)

When removing the relay and connecting a 12 V test lamp instead of the
relay (the coil) the bulb light-up, when turning the ignition key, but
after approx 10 sec. the light disappear. Is this OK?

If I turn the ignition on, should I be able to hear the fuel pump
working?

As the failure is intermittent (when I come home from work, it will
start, but sometime I have the same problem – so I have to admit that
sometime it won't start for me as well).

So my question: Are there any one who can give me a good advice, why
the car can not start – Pls. help !!

Inside the engine room everything is dry and clean.

Regards

Ib

Don't let your wife near a gorgeous Alfa
That's my advice
Women don't treat cars as objects of beauty like men do
That should sort it

Try checking the multiplug connections to the inlet manifold. Its the two
big plugs near the top that come in at different angles.

I think it is. It'll shut down the fuel pump if you don't run the
starter within a certain time.

Ignition on? I can hear mine with the engine running! It sounds like
there's a jet-engine under the back seat. I have a V6 though, so it
could be bigger, I suppose.

When it's turning over, but not starting, do you get a smell of
unburnt fuel at the exhaust? If you don't, then it sounds like a fuel
problem.

Can you hear the injectors ticking when it's turning over (you need
your head under the bonnet for this)

Colin.
