Hallo from Holland,
I had many problems with my AR 145 1995 1.6 boxing engine.
Twice the gearbox is replaced, I believe the lambda-sonde is replaced five
times, once the coolingwaterpumpis replaced,
the airbag/claxon contact-ring in the steeringwheel is replaced and so on,
and so on.
Also the engine tuning is very bad. So I am not glad at all with my alfa.
In Holland they say: lease one, never buy one.

Hi there........... can you tell me what symptoms the faulty lamba probes
gave you?
Mine was replaced once because the engine sometimes "holds back" at around
2,000rpm. It was fine for a few weeks (of hard driving, what else in an
Alfa?), but
then had the same problem........ and now they claim not to experience the
problem
when testing it, and refuse to change it again.

The first series (boxers) of the 145/6 weren't what they should have been,
but from 1997 on quality has improved. Both on mechanics (new twin spark
engines and gearboxes) as interior.

Agreed. I have had a 146 1.8 TS from new in March 1998 and have noit had a
single fault in 22,000 miles. No rattles, sqeaks, dodgy electrics, or any
of the other stereotypical Alfa faults.

The engine holds back and is not running smoothly.
At high rpm even a very poor engine is running smoothly, so if there is a
problem you don't feel it.
At low rpm (1500 to 3000 so what is low) the engine is a disaster.
esspecialy in a guey and in gear 1, 2 and 3.
Also the area engineer has no solution.
Also my problems were back in a week.

have your baby checked at the alfa workshop, den haag. barentzstr 55
tel 31-70-3643230. ask for Mark. If this guy can't fix it, consider a
smart-car-thing and know what your missing. Never trust a non-alfa
mecanic. they ask you to open the hood because don't know how to.
Lately I've seen one trying to find my battery in a 164 2.0 and took
him 10 minutes before asking me if it could be in the back.

It could be the ECU (control unit for the electronic ignition)

The latest on the ecu story,

The garage now think it is a lambda probe in the exhaust system, when a new
one is fitted the ecu has to be reset by disconnecting the battery. My
garage just fitted the new one with no improvement, apparently the ecu has a
memory which needs to be cleared, so they say. We'll see on monday when they
try to do it properly. I hope it's not the ecu, ut's about £700.

regards,

John
