I have a 99 Suburban K1500 with the 5.7L engine and I can't find where
the oil pressure switch is located. Can anybody give me a general
idea of where this thing is mounted?

Thanks!

Did you look on the back of the block? The pre-vortec ones were screwed
into the top surface of the block by the firewall. Probably there on the
vortec motors, too.

Try and see. If not, then someone will know for sure and post a definate
location.

On all the GM V-8 engines that I've ever seen the oil pressure switch
is mounted on the block near the distributor on the rear lip area of
the liffter valley. Some of the engines have a switch that screws
directly into the block while others have an adaptor that connects
to the block and then the oil pressure switch screws into the adaptor.

You are going to have to crawl on top of the engine and look to the RH
of the distributor about 3 or 4 inches ...should see a small round
type device with an electrical connector that the engien harness
connects to. Its kind of hard to find espically if its something
you've not dealt with before. If you are facing the truck the swtich
is just to the right of the distrobutor right behind the intake
manifold.. THey are a pain in the rear to get to.

Varies with the application, many SBC'S utilize an oil cooler where CM
placed the sender just North of the adapter.

Have a great one!

On the engines with an oil cooler they don't have the pressure switch
up near the distributor? but down by the oil filter adapter? If
thats so, then I stand corrected and my last msg. was incorrect.

thanks for the info

Bingo! That is EXACTLY where it was!

I had to take the cover off the top of the air intake to see it
sitting below the distributor. It actually lays horizontally and
threads into an adaptor that is vertical to the engine block. The
electrical conection (3 prong) is hidden by the distributor and you
have to feel the lock tab with your hands to get it off. What a pain
in the butt! This thing couldn't have more harder to get at.
Although, a deep-well 1-1/6" socket does the trick to get it
unthreaded.

Thanks for the description as to where this thing was located!

No, you aren't wrong. It makes no difference whether there is
an oil cooler or not. Small block chevy engines have always had
the sending units either at the rear of the block, left side, right
behind the intake manifold rear sealing line, or above the oil
filter section of the block, left side, rear of the block. For the
last number of years, it's always up top at the rear of the block.
